I voted for the guy only because there wasn’t another option.

Trump is a bully and has been a bully his whole life based on his family background and wealth. He’s trying to use his template to bully the world, only those victims have more money and less value of life for their citizens. This will not end well for Trump. Anyone thinking he has some hidden, well constructed and complex plan are the same ones thinking Les Miles was hiding away a secret playbook.

The markets turn on whatever dumb shite tue media spews as the reason it should. F**k the market. We have a spending problem as a country and not just the government. We have to do something to fix it and radical changes are necessary. Smart investors will still find a way to make money.

What Trump has been doing is not addressing this though.

He believes the tariffs will have a positive effect long term on the value of the dollar. I’m not sure if he’s correct but we have a serious problem in this country with how much we rely on other nations for what we need. Whether better trade deals and bringing some manufacturing home is the answer time will tell. I believe he’s right but think it will take much longer to have the effect he’s looking for than we might be able to stomach.

TCJA

I am aware of no economic school of thought, not even Keynesian, that thinks it’s a good idea to raise taxes during uncertain economic periods

Nor is it advisable to dramatically cut taxes during times of strong economic growth. Why in the hell did we pass a monumental tax cut while the economy was humming along? To your point, that's a tool best used when an economy is down/sputtering.

Because of the short-sightedness behind the passage of the TCJA, we're now in a position to have to pay the piper with no easy way to do so.

One possible solution would be to extend the TCJA except for those making >$1M/yr. Those receipts would help considerably to balance the cuts without taking a chainsaw to spending.

Having tax cuts with increased spending is inflationary.

Trump undermines his message with tax cuts. Hard to justify DOGE while giving tax cuts to rich.

If you care about trade imbalance then interest rates need to go up. More savings and less consuming. We need savings to build factories and infrastructure.

I’m fully aware that Trump is an alpha. I just simply said my view of what seems to be his approach. Time will tell if it works or pays off in the long run.

I do not think there is some complex ‘behind closed door’ agenda tho which seems to be a lot of people’s opinion. Trump has always been a what you see is what you get guy. He’s just trying to negotiate tariffs. Whether it works, we’ll see, but it’s a painful process for most people if it doesn’t.

Part of the plan is to devalue the dollar to soften the effect of retaliatory tariffs on us goods and increase manufacturing in the US.

Ahhh...so it was Professor Plum with a candlestick in the dining room? All part of the plan...just like:

1) Tariffs will generate revenue that will eliminate the income tax
2) Tariffs will being back manufacturing
3) Tariffs will force other countries to eliminate their tariffs
3) Tariffs will right all the wrongs of globalism
4) And my personal favorite, tariffs will allow us to "refinance" our debt

The Fed needs to get off their asses and do something. All this political posturing is just making this problem worse. I'm not even calling for rates to be cut massively, but a FFR at 4.5% when inflation is slowing makes no sense. Drop them to 3%

Right, TCJA was great for my personal bottom line at the time, but it was a short sighted maneuver for sure
