You are buying an etf with basically exposure to 3 main companies micron, sk hynix and Samsung. I would argue it would better to own direct than to pay their fees
One would need to have an international brokerage account (not difficult) to do what you are saying. You would have to buy MU, SK Hynix, Samsung, Kioxia Holdings, and the rest to duplicate all the holdings - it isn't just the big three. Yes you can easily buy MU here. There are commissions involved with buying those foreign stocks AND Korean stocks like SK Hynix and Samsung are not DTC eligible, so on top of the commish, think old school like $25 per trade, you would pay a $50 fee on every trade. You can avoid this $50 fee if you trade using IBKR.
You could buy Samsung here using OTC, but have you seen how wide the bid ask is? Last time I checked it was $60 wide. It isn't very liquid.
SK Hynix might be offered as an ADR later this year.
If you buy those foreign stocks direct, you would be limited to trading from 7 PM - 1:30 AM since that is when those exchanges are open and if you bought Kioxia, their exchange takes off for lunch.
Unless you a true Baller, the DRAM ETF is worth it from a liquidity and cost perspective.

By most people’s estimations it will. I’m still recommending it daily to people.

Yeah, time to log out of Fidelity for the day.
Everything is red. And everything I've touched the last 2-3 weeks is all red overall right now.
