Thoughts/plan on what you'll leave behind

This is for the regular wealth type. Maybe a home or two, some liquid money. Not billionaire stuff.
Do you want to leave kids anything? All? Some?
Are you spending it all or do you want to leave a fairly good windfall.
I've also read that it's good to liquidate everything so it's just clear cut/money and not have property etc handed down.

Unless you’re like 70 it’s not worth thinking about. The government is gonna take everything from us in our lifetimes

I can tell you from everything I have personally witnessed these types of situations are terrible for a family.
Very hard to do, but if everything can be liquidated and split up its for the best.

Spend your money how you want and leave them with a generous life insurance payout. You are the only thing that can make you happy. Invest in yourself while you can.

Doesn’t fit for everyone but if the stars are aligned consider (prior to death) distributing your assets to those you plan on leaving stuff too. This cuts down on a lot of the BS/red tape, etc. beneficiaries have to go threw once you are deceased.

I think it's crazy we're all the products of generations and generations before us and most people don't leave anything to pass down to their future generations. Yes, I plan on leaving my kids well off.

I don’t have kids yet but I’m gonna do this the traditional way
First son gets all the inheritance. The other sons can join the army or the cloth
Daughters get nothing but I’ll buy them braces and stuff so they can get a good husband to take care of them

I'm only mid 30s so plenty of time for this opinion to change, but my goal is to leave behind enough for my 2 boys to make a material impact in their financial lives (i.e. a home for each, college paid for their kids, or a nice nest egg for their retirement to help them retire early). By no means do I want or plan to make them rich. More so something to reduce financial stress in their life. If I see that they are not responsible with money when they are older, then plans will obviously change on how assets are allocated.

I hope that when I die, people say about me, "Boy, that guy sure owed me a lot of money."

We plan on leaving everything to our 2 kids. They both have clear career paths planned and hopefully won't need what we leave. But it will hopefully be enough for them to invest and eventually help them and their kids down the road.

My parents who I dearly love won't leave me anything but bills. That will not happen to my children. The cycle has to be broken at some point.
I'll hopefully start them out debt free with sound financial principles to build on what I have.

Preach. That's what I want for them too. Even if I'm not there to see it. It will be what's left of me on this earth.

When I left college, I planned on leaving behind a fortune for my kids/grandkids.
Now being a parent of 3, I dont plan to give them anything. God put me on this Earth to have kids, teach my kids how to work for what they have and teach them how to contribute to society. Then they can have their kids and teach their kids the same lessons.
Inherited wealth has been a disaster for this country.
EDIT: I should say my gift to them is to make sure I never become a financial burden to my kids.

Given to the wrong people, no doubt.
I didn't have a dime given to me by my parents and it forced me to hustle and build something great.

That's why you give it to them at a certain age IMO. Age 25-30 is when people start to realize things like "damn taxes are high".
By that time they should be able to appreciate what you left them.

Something went horribly wrong if my kids are inheriting from me and my wife at 30y/o. If that happens, they will have plenty to divvy up.
