OTRK tanking to start the day absolutely killed my overall profit on the day. But at least it still ended green.

It’s still amazing to think of SQ’s addressable market. As is, they could own, from end to end, a huge chunk of financial transactions with CashApp and their SMB/POS ecosystem, but take it a step further. Square bank could provide the credit to the consumer, who buys a product via cashapp through a square online/POS system, and then the business turns around to pay off their loan at Square bank. All of that is in their ecosystem and they’re taking a cut and/or interest at every step.
If they can work their way into the larger corporate transaction and banking space, their growth will be astronomical.

What would be the difference of this from any Visa or other credit card? I am starting to see a lot of these disruptive upstarts work their way right into the path of traditional business plans. The risk a company like Square has is that Visa and other credit card systems could easily put their foot down on top of them and its all over.

SQ will be offering collateralized loans against bitcoin/crypto within the next few years

In an over simplistic explanation, Stripe is highly focused on fully integrated online (developer friendly) payment processing. SQ is more focused on the user friendly payment, POS, and now banking market.
Stripe will absolutely be a barrier for Square when it comes to capturing market share beyond SMBs.

This is my opinion and I can certainly be wrong, but outside of online payment processing, Visa has no interest in entering these markets. They’re a fine tuned payment processing service and they’re happy in that world because 1) they’re dominant, 2) they’ve created strong partnerships with CC and POS companies, and 3) there is still a huge addressable market in developing countries that need payment processing.
They don’t need to move into to merchant POS systems, SMB ecosystems, payment apps, or the world of banking/credit. They let other’s do that and build up their market while they happily take their cut.
ETA - And in truth, this market is so large that they can all coexist and still be huge winners.

Sears took that sit on sideline stance as well. They had catalog order market cornered and got their arse handed to them for refusing to change with the times.

Visa takes on Square as it rolls out Tap to Phone digital payments
Oct. 21, 2020 8:01 AM ETVisa Inc. (V)By: Liz Kiesche, SA News Editor46 Comments
After piloting Visa Tap to Phone digital payments over the past year, Visa (NYSE:V) is rolling out the product in more than 15 markets with plans to expand to the U.S. in 2021 and accelerate its growth to the rest of the world through more than 35 new partners.
Tap to Phone allows current generation Android smartphones and tablets to accept contactless, or tap to pay, transactions without additional hardware.
In other words, the tool can help businesses access the digital economy by turning the merchant's Android device into a point-of-sale terminal, Visa said.
The move will add more pressure to Square's (NYSE:SQ) Seller and Fiserv's (NASDAQ:FISV) Clover ecosystems aimed at small merchants who use the company's products to accept credit and debit card payments from customers through the merchant's smartphone.
JPMorgan Chase (NYSE:JPM) also is also taking aim at Square and fintech rival PayPal with its QuickAccept product that lets businesses take card payments through a mobile app or contactless card reader.

I stand corrected, but it may be too little too late and too hyper focused. Purely anecdotal, but I just did a cursory search for it and also searched for CashApp, Venmo, and PayPal competitors online and there's very little there.
I think you may be oversimplifying how much it will take for someone to catch up to the likes of PayPal and CashApp in the finance app market. They are much more than a tap to pay or payment app like what Visa released.
