Mind if I ask why you think GILD will disappoint? I think it has a bright long-term future, so if it is going to disappoint, I'd like to take advantage of the discount.

it appears Scott is a trader, not an investor. GILD is probably one of the best long term holds out there...great for us investors.

XOM Continues to go south!! I think it's headed below $80 a share.

I know a lot of people here live in the area affected by the spill (so maybe there's still some bad blood), but is there any other reason I see XOM mentioned so often here ahead of BP? On the dividend, 6.3% vs. 3.5% can make up for a certain amout of "iffyness" in this sector. I have BP on a dividend watch list and I'm considering a position ahead of the next ex-div date in a couple of weeks.

Couldn't agree more. Have a large portion of my mom's retirement account in GILD.

XOM is a lot more financially sound company and can weather a much worse oil environment. Sure BP's dividend is higher, but when you buy XOM, you aren't taking as much risk as you are with BP

ETA- I'm a BP holder and am currently waiting to jump in on Exxon

Good point about the potential for a worsening environment. I have XOM on the list as well, along with MRO and BP. Oither than some TOT that I ended up with because of past employment years ago, I've never been much of a player in this sector. The entire commodity sector looks weak, so convincing myself to do much more than take a taste is difficult. This would be a longer term investment, not a trade, so the fundamentals are making me hesitate, even if/when the technicals begin to look better.

AMZN makes $92mil for the quarter. Market cap increases $40bil+.

Its scary to phantom what would happen if AMZN profits 1bil for the year.

Im in it for the long term as well. Timing is hard, so I don't mind if I jump in and it loses 10-15% over the next few weeks/months. I know that oil will eventually come back, and my dividends that are being reinvested are able to buy more shares at this low price.

Well with that report I might hold a smaller position through earnings.

ETA: I'm just a trader and not getting excited about investors losing.

I'm aware. I usually trade more than invest as well. Just wondering what he sees that indicates GILD might disappoint.

I was looking at the amount of time left on their patents and their competition. Also a few days ago the 120 calls were being sold.
