I wonder if Linda Lay has any money with him? Would it not be ironic if Linda Lay lost a lot of money in a scheme like this?

Gotta love the latest developments:

quote:

The SEC's fraud charges may be the least of accused financial scammer R. Allen Stanford's worries. Federal authorities tell ABC News that the FBI and others have been investigating whether Stanford was involved in laundering drug money for Mexico's notorious Gulf Cartel.

quote:

A video posted on the firm's web-site shows Stanford, now sought by U.S. Marshals, being hugged by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and praised by former President Bill Clinton for helping to finance a convention-related forum and party put on by the National Democratic Institute.

Does his wife look like Gail Stanwyck? If so, the police need to watch Fletch ASAP...

old bloomberg story

Interesting article link here, and to think this entire mess has its roots in Baton Rouge.

Which would seem to answer the question of whether it was indeed the FBI which allegedly pushed the SEC off the Stanford case. This is bad news for Stanford's depositors, I think. Stanford, if he has any sense, knows that he has both more to fear and more to gain from the Gulf Cartel than he has from the FBI or the SEC -- if he's going to be cooperating with anybody right now, it'll be the drug barons, and there's even a chance that they, rather than he, now have control of the SIB billions. After all, they can make Stanford a very attractive offer: give up your depositors' money, and we'll create a new life for you and protect you from the Feds. Don't give up your depositors' money, and we'll kill you

I have a family member on the LSU Foundation board. No foundation money with Stanford as far as he knows, says he cannot recall ever seeing their name on any financial statement.

If I understand this correctly this will have a major impact on Baton Rouge as many of the Stanford investors are from Baton Rouge, or is it that a couple of the firm's executives are originally from Baton Rouge?

I didn't read the whole thread so I dont know if this has been mentioned or not, from what I understand about $100 million came out of Laffy and about $800 Million out of BR. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
