Price gouging in a temporary supply crunch like the Colonial situation should be allowed

Price gouging and/or rations should be allowed in a time like this - I couldn’t fit rationing in the title. The amount of idiots filling up every tank they can find is ridiculous. People that need it are struggling to find it because of these fools, and the panic just breeds more panic. I’d rather pay $4/gallon and/or only get 8 gallons at a time than get nothing at all.

I just watched the president's speech and he said he has federal agencies watching for price gouging. What can the feds do if some gas station wants to charge $20 a gallon? I didn't know the price of gas was federally controlled.

Nice counter. Didn’t realize you were a socialist.

I actually get your point but what do you expect? With todays social media and fear tactics its inevitable. Once it hits the news it spreads like wildfire.

Price controls lead to shortages
You either allow gouging or you have shortages.

I gotta agree with slackster. Free markets.

I had a friend who was banned from this board for saying the same thing. You are correct. It would prevent hoarding and provide means for the most desperate among us to have access to supply. Too much sky screaming these days to allow markets to work and everybody in this country is dirt poor and can't pay for higher gas prices when there's an imbalance.

Ol boy was taking pride in price gouging after a hurricane. It was a little different.

This made sense to you?
A single mother with 3 kids, buys gas at $2.55 to go to work everyday. Without warning a pipeline goes down. Immediately every station in town goes to $10 to curb hoarding.
Guess what? The most desperate among us cant shell out $10 for gas, while she waits for the pipeline to come back on line. Her kids dont eat very well, if she does that

Rational versus Emotional response.
I agree with your post even if publicly unpopular.

Thank you for proving my point
Now the single mom has no way to get to work and she doesn't get paid because she's hourly and instead of staying afloat with higher prices she is in the hole while she's stuck without gas.
I can make up emotional scenarios on a whim, too.

Your desperate single mom can maybe only afford a third of a tank with gouging, and maybe she can still get to work a few more days before running out.
Or there’s no gouging and the supply runs completely dry because of retard hoarders and she can’t get to work at all

So do you want government price controls on everything, or just certain things?

Took this yesterday while I picked up 10 gallons while on E.

A third of a tank is about 7 gallons or $70. Thats about 2 days of work in La at min. wage, after taxes etc.
So what the hell does it even matter if she can get to work those 2 days? Shes not 1 penny better off. Its far, far better to sit at home with no gas, and not pay for day care

I want price controls to be a seldom used arrow in the arsenal. Because it keeps (say a Mitt Romney hedge fund type) from forcing a shortage, as a reason jack prices up, in order to make bank. Off a false narrative that they created as a way to make bank
This is exactly how Soros operates. Creates runs, and shorts, then banks the money
