A friend of ours just got a 2022 hybrid Hyundai Tucson and they were proud they only paid $1k over sticker price for it because "other people are paying close to $2k over sticker for it"...and she had to wait like 2 months to get it after putting a deposit down to get one.

Imagine paying over sticker price for a Hyundai

wow. morons.

i have never not only NOT paid OVER sticker i have NEVER PAID STICKER! who the frick pays MSRP sticker price?

i have paid less always for my past hondas and way less for my nissans (trucks and SUVS) below sticker price. dude was mad i got him so low on my SUV. he cried saying i paid less than his dealer cost then he showed me the sheet. i don't believe him but i still got a killer deal. true car confirmed it also plus comps i used.

My wife just bought a new Tahoe from Ross Downing in Hammond. I spoke with probably a hundred dealerships over the last month trying to track one down. It was hard work, even harder finding one that wasn’t marked up $10k for a “market adjustment.” She’s very happy with what she got, and we got it at MSRP.

I don’t plan on trading mine in, especially with the gas prices right now.

Keeping driving what you have because its actually good. Todays car prices are indefensible. Have an 07 Sequoia that was covered in Ida debris, still runs like a wild hyena but with cosmetic damage.

look I'll resign to paying MSRP or what have you, but THIS whole trend needs to end

not paying that BS charge - that is literally just a "fleece consumer while we can" charge

No one knows if prices are going to drop 20%. I have a hard time believing the civics they can’t keep on the lot at 25k are going to suddenly be readily available and only 20k in 60 days.

I just ordered a Silverado. Hoping it takes 3 months to get here so I’ll have more power to drop the selling price. GM doesn’t talk numbers until it’s time to take delivery.

No, it is literally fair market value based on supply versus demand. If you don't want to pay for it don't but if others are willing to pay for it they aren't incentivized to reduce prices. I bet when you got cars for $5k-$10k below MSPR you didn't think it was fleecing the dealers and their employees. I don't recommend buying a car right now and paying the adjustments but I completely understand them adding adjustments. Is asking for a raise when you are in a position of leverage considering fleecing your employer? It is funny how perspective changes everything.

same. my 08 titan has 200k miles on it. was hit by parts of my carport roof that blew over my main roof and hit my truck. left a couple dents and scratched the hood, roof and windshield and driver side window with all that modified butumen crap. like sandpaper.

just have to get body work and paint job done but it runs like a champ. with all those miles all i have had to do on it was brake job, front two wheel hubs replaced due to vibration/age, drive belt, one power window motor failed, and my transmission linkage broke to my column shifter and had to be fixed. nothing major with engine.

Now is not the time to buy. My wife's car was totaled last Friday and it fricking sucks trying to get a replacement. It is insane in the car market right now.

Not even close but I do try to maximize my compensation. I view this as no different. Everyone tries to max out their salary which is essentially their profits from their labor/skills. Why wouldn't these businesses do the same?

I also would not buy a car right now but I would not fault a dealership from trying to get the fair market value of their vehicles right now. It is all supply and demand. If you feel dealerships are screwing people over now then why don't you feel like people are screwing over dealerships when you used to get $5k-$10k off MSRP?

It is just funny to me what gets vilified and what is allowed to be successful.

Hyundai's are actually surprisingly good vehicles nowadays. I had a 2012 Sante Fe that is still running with 150K + miles on it with minimal issues and regular maintenance.

They are like cheaper, longer lasting versions of Toyota's now. At least in my experience.

Yeah I wasn't trying to dig on Hyundai as a brand. Just saying in the past people werent running to Hyundai dealerships and looking at a $30k vehicle and going "hmmm, but will you take $31k for it?!?!"

It's like that at most dealerships though, even I got my 2014 brand new Accord for almost $3k under msrp back in the day.

Nobody is expecting new car prices to drop 20% across the board overnight or anything. Just for them to eventually go back to normal once supply catches up again. Yeah it's probably not around the corner this year, but it wont last like this forever either.

I got a $25k new Accord back in 2014 for $22k. Today Accords are going for $1k-$2k over MSRP in my area looking at truecar, it's just dumb. I'm just never going to pay something like that. Cars will eventually go back to fast depreciating bad investment assets like they've always been and a lot of people that bought cars for $3k, $5k, $10k over MSRP will really regret it.

You don’t think asking 10k over msrp is unreasonable? Salaries haven’t gone up and cost of living has increased. I don’t see how they reasonably think they can sell at that price. I understand it’s supply and demand, however when you have companies like Ford who want to cut the dealership out because they are price gouging.
