$150-200k and a 2 yr wait?

Is this the new normal? If so, how do you pool owners help me justify this.

Is that a serious quote?

Wife is asking me about installing a pool and I was estimating $100k. I know there are a lot of factors that go into it (size, quality) but that was my max.

Discouraging to hear how much and how long it takes.

Yeah.. that was a outskirts of nashville quote today. May not be so high in areas that arent being invaded. Werent they like $30-$50 a few years ago?

Lol, no, that’s not normal.

Yes, prices are very high. Yes, lead times are very long.

What area are you in? What extra features do you have? What amount of decking are you getting? Any special BS your wife saw on Pinterest that she haaaaaaad to have?

A buddy of mine had a similar quote in Nolensville. He ended up having to move to Miami and got a quote for the same dimensions for half the price as here and it was done in around 3 months.

I live in NOVA. Got our quote last year in May and dug in January. Still waiting to finish.

I found shopping for pools like buying a car. It was very, VERY difficult to compare companies quotes. They literally ranged from $85k to $155k. Some were two pages, some were 8. It’s insane.

Do you homework but I would say those costs you quoted are in line with what to expect.

You don’t justify it. It’s simply a want. There’s no value in it other than enjoyment.

It’s never an investment although some people are saying since Covid it’s actually increasing values some. Obviously not dollar for dollar increases though.

You get it for enjoyment and because you hate people like me and don’t want to go hang out with neighbors at the neighborhood pool ??????

I am weighing all the money ive dumped into this thing over the years (~$13K in parts and upkeep) vs the cost to fill it with dirt. They wont be able to bury this thing deep enough for me.

Buddy got a shipping container pool, if you have the ability to put it into a ridge. Or do what he did, buil a deck around it, and a bar on one side. Those cost are much more fixed since price of shipping containers is more consistent then all the materials traditional pool needs. Pump is very simple as well.

Wow…inflation is a bitch.

We were quoted 40k less than 10 years ago for a pool about that size. We ended up moving and buying a house with a saltwater pool instead. I absolutely love our pool, and it has been much cheaper to maintain than we were told. (Never been over 1k a year, and this year we are under $300 including all repairs, salt, chemicals etc)

All that being said…no way I would pay 200k for a new pool. Have you considered just moving to a nicer house that is 100k-200k more but already has a pool?

I was just quoted $275K, but it was next level insanity. Architect got a little crazy.

No chance, no way.

Yeah looking at houses that already have a pool now. That would solve two big problems

If you follow through with a pool, do as much research as you can on the controller and salt generator system as you can.

I have Hayward. They are one of the major, if not largest, suppliers. I’ve had more issues with their equipment. You know how it goes, you start to have some issues. Then you Google your model and find all of the terrible reviews and people in forums trying to figure out the problems.
