Looking to get into a new Tundra (with the $3000 customer cash they are offering).

Anyone ever use Edmunds TMV and had any luck with it?
MSRP=$28700
TMV =$27017
-$3000
Total=$24017

Thinking about going in and slapping it on the salesman's desk and say this is all I am willing to pay.

Will it work? (seems to be a good deal)

Probably a bad idea.

You probably suck at poker.

I hate dicking around with those people. This is what I am willing to pay according to the True Market Value. If they shoot me down then I move on. No big loss.

That's a plausible philosophy.

Just be ready to walk out and not come back for a week or two if they don't wanna play ball.

I'm guessing that the 3K is coming out of Toyota's pocket and not the dealer's. Right? If so, then the answer would be "yes"

Start out online, let them fight over the sale. Or in Btr, my buddy is the owner of a Toyota Dealership. Let me know if I can help....

Thats the easy way......

SInce you're using Edmunds, check out the "Incentives" link. It shows you what manufacturers are offering in financing, rebates, and my all time favorite "Marketing Support" for individual vehicles. In some cases the marketing support gets into five figures. This is cash paid to the dealers, so you can figure out what the invoice is, and offer below invoice according to whatever the marketing support is. Here's the link to the incentives offered for the Tundra, just pick what particular model you're looking at.

The economy will probably tank again sometime within the next 24 months. You'll get a better deal then. FWIW, 23k would be my top offer right now.

Use Edmunds to get bids from retailers in your area. I did that with my Acura and felt I got a great deal. The dealerships know they are competing for your business so they don't screw around with numbers here and there. After the bids I was able to get the closest dealership to match the lowest offer. It was very simple.

I will never buy a new truck or car. I'm buying a 2nd vehicle truck this weekend. It's a '99 Ford Lariat loaded with 106K miles with 2 previous owners who were neighbors and is in excellent shape. $5,700 with it retailing for $26,000 new. If you want to save yourself a lot of money there are some great deals looking at used trucks right now. Be patient and you will find just what you are looking for. Paying cash so no monthly note or interest.

You will be lucky to get two years out of that truck without replacing something major. Gasoline engines don't have the best track records after 100k miles. Nothing wrong with not buying new I just don't like having a truck I can't depend on.

Yeah, at that point, you are just trading note payments for repair bills.
