I know most everyone's feelings toward Robinhood but I only use it for Tesla (I don't really trade individual stocks) so I have an account.

I am about to inherit around 50000 in Southern Co stock. Can I just move this into my Robinhood account. What is the process? How does Robinhood handle dividend stocks?

I just buy and hold my Tesla stock and will hold the Southern stock as well so I'd rather not open another brokerage account.

Nice on the 50k

I would personally sell the SO and buy Vanguard VPU

You can, but I'd recommend webull instead. Webull doesn't charge but your outgoing broker might.

You are a millionaire trading Tesla on Robinhood? I really hate that the OT has invaded MT, but I am about to be one of those types when I say this. Open an account with a real brokerage that doesn’t crash and is just a data collection group that sells information.

As for Southern Co. stock, can you take the stepped up cost basis and sell the shares? Depending on the date of death you may not want to do that because of the gains. I’d look into that before I trusted Robinhood with $2.6 million dollars, especially given their known problems with crashing on a day you may want to be able to move money like that around.

50 grand value not 50,000 shares
Unless I’m reading it wrong

and no, I would not deposit 2.5MM at robinhood LOL if that is the case

Given their recent colossal failure, I wouldn't touch that platform ever.

Yes 50k value not 50k shares.

I have a financial advisor that handles my retirement accounts and some other investments.

I don't trade individual stocks other than Tesla. I know Robinhood has some problems but I like the app and I'm not day trading just buying and holding.

Did you reply to this with your alter or are you another human? It seems that way, but I'm also two bottles of wine shared and a beer or two deep.

I’d seriously consider Webull. Trading hours 4AM to 7PM. I’ve seen sooooooo many complaints about Robinhood. Worst it just going down pretty often.

ha ha oops. both are me. The reply was posted from my phone and is my account I created almost 10 years ago. I recently got a new computer and have no idea my original password so I created this new account recently.

Seems kinda foolish to move a substantial amount of money to a notoriously unreliable exchange just because you like the fancy line graph on the app

Well, I am a millennial so.....

I use Fidelity. There is literally, nothing Robinhood can do that Fidelity can't and more Fidelity can do than Robinhood can do and..... Free trades.

There was a time when the "free trades" of the apps was appealing, but not anymore.
