What kind of good or bad comments do you have after claim process following Ida ( or any other disaster ) with your carrier?

My initial claim with Souther Fidelity quick but incomplete, then they died and now have to deal with the state fund. Gonna end up with State last resort insurance I'm sure.

Reinsurance was due on 6/1 for larger carriers, and 7/1 for smaller, “Demotech” carriers.
Due to Florida tort laws (FL has 8% of all homeowners insurance in America, but 82% of all homeowners lawsuits), a ton of carriers along the gulf coast are in trouble. FL carriers list a collective $2bil in past two years, and that’s with no hurricanes.
It’s a “hard” market, and will be for next couple years I’m afraid.

It’s hard enough just finding a company that will write a policy these days

I have ASI (Progressive), and while they unnecessarily fought me and drug things out a bit on certain parts of the claim, my fight was no where near what some of my friends and coworkers went through, and are currently still going through.

If you can find someone to write a policy they’ll probably be the best and worst insurer available.

Not enough damage from Ida to make a claim, but we did for Zeta. (we did have a loss of use claim but that wasn't really an adjuster and it took about 60 days to pay)

Had Southern Fidelity but they ain't there no more in a week so this may not be helpful.

It took us getting to a 4th adjuster to have someone actually show up (first two quit on the job, third got transferred to another area)

So about 30 days to have someone look at the damage.

Once they did... 10 days for a report and 2 more days for a check.

USAA rolled out a red carpet for me and I had the claim payment in my checking account two days after the inspection. It took a week for the adjuster to make it to me but I’m sure that was due to them triaging claims and getting to the total losses first, which I have no problem with because that’s only fair. I almost feel bad for stopping by these threads since I have had nothing but great experiences with USAA. They paid me very fairly and quickly after Ida and a hailstorm I had in April 2021. No complaints whatsoever. After the way they handled my Ida homeowners claim, I switched my cars to them as a thank you. They have a customer for life in me, I don’t care how much they charge in the future.

Pay a little more for insurance in general but the customer service more than makes up for it in my experience

Have heard nothing but great experiences with USAA. Tried to get my Dad to switch so I could get in on his coattails, but at age 95, he told me he wasn’t interested in the hassle.

State Farm has been very good about writing policies, but very poor at addressing claims. Virtually every house in my neighborhood has gotten a hail roof replacement over the past 3 years, but, in seemingly Biblical fashion, my house has missed the hail that hit both sides of me and all 3 houses across from me on a zero lot line street. Several roofers wouldn’t even come look when I told them I had State Farm bc they said I’d never get a yes.

I sold a life policy to an adjuster recently. He told me he terminated his contract with State Farm because they denied everything and he just couldn’t justify working with them anymore. Said it is astounding the obvious losses that they deny nowadays. Today’s State Farm is not our parents/grandparent’s State Farm.

I have State Farm and this thread makes me want to switch. Credit to them that my rates haven’t gone up significantly, but sounds like that’s bc they don’t pay claims

This thread has me likely switching my home owners and auto to USAA. Renewal is in September so don’t have my Lloyds renewal price yet.

Been happy with Geico auto but looks like bundling my HO with USAA will be cheaper. Never had a claim on the house.
