re: Meta down 8 percent today to 155. July 2018 the price was 210. Is time to open a position?

The metaverse posts in this thread crack me up.
Every single new tech that is introduced always get this "why would people want to do that?" including Facebook.
But this time you actually have someone who has already done it, and has a shite ton of cash.
I personally do not have any direct exposure to Meta and they might not figure this thing out, but the analysis I keep seeing in this thread is very narrow minded.

Second life was released in 2003 and had attracted millions of dollars in ad revenue for them in virtual space. I guess you could say it was successful.
Granted I do think I'm the future a vr world could become popular. But we are still not there technological that most people would want to use what meta is building.

So narrow that nobody can explain it.

Your take is the worst in this thread. You're calling the Metaverse a dud less than a year after they officially to make that transition.

I'm saying nobody can explain what it is or its application.

A 5,000 word article probably won't do the best job of explaining it to you. This is probably one of those things you'll need to experience and 'see' to understand.
For simplicity sake, it's essentially a virtual reality video game that you can live in, work in, shop in, game in, have fun in, go to concerts in, meet friends and catch up in, watch porn in, do research in (anything you can currently do by going to a web browser but much more immersive).
Companies are moving their employee training platforms to the metaverse (search Accenture and their objectives here).
You should really watch the movie Ready Player One if you want to try and wrap your head around the concept. I'm in not saying that is how "this" metaverse Meta is aiming to build will end up. Here, let me help: "Ready Player One is a metaverse because it is an open and shared virtual world where users can be whoever they want and do whatever they want, via their avatars. That is the definition of the metaverse."
There ya go bud. The opportunities are limitless.

I've produced some VR, but as it stands now, it has about the same appeal as stereoscopic 3D which I've done a bunch of. VR has a novel appeal, but that aspect tends to fade fast unless it drives some real entertaining content improvements or functional advantages.
Google Maps street view is a functional sort-of VR application that works well. Flight training simulators work. Games can work if the headsets don't hurt the eyes and cause a headache.

Didn't their downward slide start because they double and tripled down on pouring money into Metaverse ?
He is going off the deep end with the Metaverse.
Who is really getting excited about that? When facebook emerged it was social phenomenon with explosive growth. Largely driven by word of mouth and FOMO. Is anyone clamoring for Second Life 2.0?
Now he's just copying features from other platforms, and trying to make this Metaverse thing happen. It's not going to, and Facebook's best days are far, far behind it.
I wouldn't touch it.

The Dow, S&P, Nasdaq are all in the green today.
Meta is down 3.2 percent today.
Just another day in the MetaVerse!

Same applies here, with Meta. Can they execute? No clue, but as I stated they have shown they can do it before and thus time they have a shite ton of cash.
We laugh at these companies that don't evolve or adapt fast enough and end up becoming obsolete all the time. Now that a company actually sees the writing on the wall and makes a turn before it's too late, we're laughing.
It may not work, there's clear risks. My problem is with people that act like they know for a fact how it's going to end up. That's just ridiculous.

We’ve essentially had Metaverse tech for years, then. We call them MMOs. To make matters worse the genre has been in a state of decline for years. Companies are in a constantly escalating arms race to maintain interest. Many of the major thinkers in the space feel that the stagnation will get worse until the next major upgrade in tech happens.
This isn’t revolutionary. It’s not even middle of the pack. Meta is late to the party and a poor competitor in their current state.
