I'm in the process of purchasing a new home and currently shopping home owners policies. Liberty Mututal gave me a quote on Wednesday that was insane for the property at a cost of $5,900/ year. My State Farm agent that I've had auto coverage with for 21 years told me that State Farm is not writing home owners policies in Madisonville right now.

Does anyone have any recommendations that I can contact?
No flood zone, 2,500 SF, typical construction of brick veneer/ stucco.

Try ASI. I know a bunch of folks in Mandeville with ASI and they are one of the only companies issuing flat deductible policies rather than 2-4%.

I just went through this same process. I called a lot of the brand names via a toll free number on their website and they wouldn't insure or were ridiculous. Amica, Auto-Owners, Met Life, State Farm, etc. all won't insure.

Liberty Mutual was high, but not that high. Are they using your credit score to jack up your rate? I ended up with ASI (Progressive affiliate). USAA also writes in St Tammany, but they were expensive too, unless you got some sort of independent inspector to certify certain things, like your HIP roof. It was odd and no one else asked for it. I would recommend calling an insurance broker, but ask them to focus on companies with excellent AM Best ratings (A+, A++), good claims process, timely payment, etc. because some of the brokers will come back with no name, brand x quotes that are ridiculously cheap, but buyer beware.

Call Steve Lovecchio in Mandeville. Has access to several companies.

You may end up wanting to go through Citizens (state's insurer of last resort). Rates are good, who knows if they'll pay up though

Most agents should be able to get you a quote and guide you through the process.

I have Covington address but am in Madisonville school district. Went with Maison Insurance after seeing recommendations on here last year. They were a little cheaper than Geico who I had previously. No complaints from them so far.

I had Liberty Mutual up until 2 years ago. Switched to Ameriprise for half the cost. Just received approval for a hail damage claim and check is in the mail. That was my first claim. Probably time to start shopping again though

Federated National got us $860/yr for 2300sqft 280k house. 2% hurricane deduct, but we have no trees big enough to fall so that didn't concern us

ASI is the one constant I've seen still writing policies in and around New Orleans in the last couple years.

Going through same thing now. I could be wrong but I think LA Citizens rates are tax deductible.

I as well went with federated national. My house is 3600sq ft. Paid $2600 thru Lozes ins (broker). Actually they sent me multiple quotes but I found federated policy to be best for me...

$5600 for HO is an arse raping fwiw
