Kia Telluride - over MSRP?

We got ours in August 2020. Though it was below MSRP, the dealership added a $1,000 "Inventory Demand Fee". Pretty much told me to shove it when I said I wasn't paying it.

So far, for what we paid for it, I can't stand the car and my wife is starting to get aggravated with it at times also. Hope you enjoy it. You'll need to adjust your headlights down quite a bit off the lot if they are still shipping them with headlights set to high.

What are your problems with it? I mean everyone else seems to talk very high of it and there’s a reason there’s months long wait for ordering one

There are too many safety features and controls that take control away from the operator. Something as simple as unlocking or locking the car doors when and how you want to. There are several things that give you convenience or ease at the expense of control and decision making power. I guess it makes since then that our lazy populace would swarm to it

Other than that, the engine lacks low-end torque and gets poor gas mileage for being a mid-size SUV. It'll average around 25 mpg on the highway, but around 18 in the city. That, combined with a ridiculously small gas tank, means a lot of filling up. I did the math on the last tank and we got about 21 mpg average for the tank. The driver's seat is uncomfortable for long trips and the center console is too low to comfortably rest your elbow on while driving.

It does run much better on 93 octane since it has a very high compression ratio, somewhere around 13.5:1. Oil changes are a breeze, and driving 70mph and above it seems to really float. It's a joy to drive on the interstate. It has a good bit of room in the back too.

It has it's good qualities too, but for what we paid those bad qualities are unacceptable in my view.

We have the EX model with premium package FWIW.

We ordered the EX as well and I have heard the low end torque is not good. Talking about taking away control from the operator, my wife’s Mazda does this as well. Trying to unlock a car door and then manually unlocking another without the key fob is an act of congress

I mean in a few years you're not going to have any options with this. Well, assuming this chip shortage issue gets sorted out.

Then probably won’t be buying a vehicle in today’s market.

Why is a Kia Telluride so hot? I just don't get it.

They have some cool looking headlights and cooled seats, but everyone I have known has had head gasket issues within a 100k miles and a windowed block. I guess they were forward thinking with that warranty.

I'm kinda embarrassed to say what we paid for my wife's Telluride in August 2021 now

what models did you guys buy at that price? I bought my wife the S (the step below SX) and we paid significantly more than y'all

I disagree. My F150 has most of the same safety features without the lack of control.

I know several people with a telluride and I’ve never heard of head gasket problems, I’ll go check my wife’s coolant later.

We bought our 2021 august of 2020 right after the 2021 price increase, I walked out of several dealerships and finally one one went for 1k over the msrp price. I think it was like 44k for an awd ex p. There was a place in Illinois that would do msrp and then ship for 1k, all the headache I went through w dealerships, I wish I would’ve just done that.

Yeah that’s a lot for a Kia, but what else are you going to buy for that? A Tahoe? A MDX? We looked at everything and it was the only car that had all the bells and whistles for under 45k. We like the car. It is also just a car, I wish I could’ve talked her into driving her old car for another year or two. My truck is 12 years old and it’s just a truck, just like the next truck I’ll buy.

You are literally the first owner I've seen on this board over the past 2 years say they didn't like it. It is impossible to please everyone so it is expected some don't care for it, just crazy it took this long to find someone who didn't like it.

We got the EX + Premium package.
Trims go LX, S, EX, then SX as the top.

People who say this shouldn't be in the market for a Telluride xD. It's a clown show - I paid like $1.8K over MSRP with Sam Club's Car Buying service this summer and I would do it again. Obviously everyone's situation is different so I wouldn't begrudge someone for doing or not doing something.

The comparable cars like Hyundai Pallisade have the same type of markup FWIW.

Dude don’t feel bad. When they started selling the 2021s I joined like every telluride Facebook group and I played hardball with dealers from Houston to Pensacola to try and get one for MSRP. I refused to pay a dollar over it. After like 4 months of that, and not wanting to wait on a dealer from far off to order and ship it, I settled with 1k over. There was also a couple thousand dollar price hike from 20 to 21. I put way too much effort into it.
