Yeah I’ve been holding on to the Gold cars for these same reasons. Gold seems like a better deal than Platinum for most people.

Most travelers actually have both. They use the gold card for every day purchases and the platinum card for travel expenses and perks.

My favorite part is the centurion lounges and the response you get from merchants when handing them the card “Damn this thing is heavy! You must be rich!!”
I had the same comment just the other day.... except they left out the rich part.

True story. I've spent more than $2M on my AMEX so far.

The 200 in travel incidentals is pretty nice. No more bag fees or use it to upgrade your boarding priority for southwest. The card also has a lot of hotel perks. Both times i’ve used mine which i’ve only had for a few months i got a free upgrade to a nicer room. Like someone else said the free global entry is also nice.

I thought the Saks thing was going to be something I was going to miss out on... Turns out, they have some pretty good sales online. I got a Peter Millar shirt and some brass collar stays for $50. I also signed up for the Shoprunner service that gets you free 2 day shipping from several online stores. Shoprunner was also included in the benefits.

Gold is a better deal. I will say that the Fine Hotels program with Platinum is awesome. If you book three nights you get the fourth free, serious upgrades, 75/day to spend in room service, other stuff... Friend booked us a room in Chicago using fine hotels and it was amazing.

What do I need to do to get the $10/month food credit on my gold card?

You just order food on grub hub. Easy app to use for delivery or pickup. Pay with your Amex gold. 4-6 days later you’ll receive a $10 credit. Starts on the 1st of every month.

Oh wow didn’t know about that.

So I don’t need to enroll or activate anything? Just use just pay for a meal through grub hub and it will auto credit up to $10?

Yep, just use your Amex gold on Grubhub. Once a month you’ll receive the $10 credit.

I have 2-3 spots I rotate through that are $10-12 with tip. Free meal once a month. Only time I ever use Grubhub.

I have another metal card and this is by far the worst thing about it.

I hate the heavy cards.

The Savor from Capital One has 4% cash back on dining and entertainment, 2% groceries, 1% on other. I got it for that but HATE that they make it heavy.

I want my wallet as thin and light as possible. And many folks you hand it to do comment that is heavy, but none has yet mistaken me for being rich.

You have to enroll the card for the dining credit.

Amex doesn't like to make anything easy.

Amex offers is an underrated perk, although it’s not exclusive to the platinum card.

I agree that the platinum card is only worth it if you can take advantage of centurion clubs. If not, there are better cards out there. Amex and otherwise.

You can no longer buy gift cards to trigger the $200 airline incidental credit.

The monthly Uber credit can be used on Uber Eats so that's easy to use.

$50 every six months from Saks.

$100 global entry credit

The 5x airfare is cool until you realize it gets no travel protection.

If you don't fly Delta or have a Centurion lounge, I think it's a one year hold and dump. Gold has more useful purposes past year one with 4x dining and groceries and $10 monthly food credit. I use it for GrubHub.

Yeah, I got Gold and still am not sure I'll get the Plat outside of a 1 year rental for the bonus points if I get 100k. The airline credit is the stingiest shitty credit to get. There is nothing easier than the CSR for it and I really don't get why AMEX is so cheap about it. If I traveled to Centurion Lounge airports on the reg I'd have it in my wallet. But the Gold and CSR are 2 sweet premium cards.

I do not recall ever enrolling in the dining credit, but you’re most likely right as they do tend to make you opt into things, not out.
