IF it was a real shtf situation, I want to have lots of little liquor bottles, soap, TP, etc to barter.

AND by the way, a young woman in need would trade just about anything for a tampax... when she needs one.

I exited my longs in the S&P today. I'm not liking the action after Bernanke's speech...I'll look to reenter at the 1300 level if we head back up.

Had a college prof in the 70s that used this as his investment strategy, only bought companys that manufactured feminine hygine products, thought the demand would always be there.

Thanks for bumping this thread. Was just about to bump it myself.

I asked my buddy about this rally and he said it will to to 1100 before it hits 1400.
No such thing as a straight line bearmarket.

See you guys in October when/If I get back in.

Do you mind if I bookmark this post and maybe bring it back up in about 4 weeks?

Why sure you can.

I believe I told everyone months ago there would be mini rallies.

He does not play every rally or dip.

Now is not the time to get back in.

Lets see, the EU comes up with a temporary solution to greece and everyone gets excited for a few weeks.

Just like the Bin Laden rally a few months ago.

We have not hit bottom yet.

That money you guys made the last few weeks is temporary unless you get it out. Its paper only.

And lets remember.

Check the date stamp on my #1 post in this thread.

I got out at the very top. I got out at the 52 week high of the S&P.

I got out even higher then where this mini rally stalled.

If you dont believe it check the date on post #1 of this thread and then look at a chart for the S&P 500. They were both on the same day.

Do you have an options account? I would think $100,000 in long dated puts could make you a couple of million if you could actually predict the future.

Does your buddy have Biff's book from Back to the Future?"

My buddy that gives me this info trades options and has made millions doing exactly what you are talking about.

I dont have the knowledge he has, so I just take what he tells me and I do the best I can with that knowledge.

Still plenty risk in the market as evidenced by today. No real conviction either way as evidenced by low volume recently. When the whales decide to take a position, the volume will pick up and the trend will be sustained.

Alcoa story is interesting, they beat because analyst cut estimates hard recently. Might set up for a lot of earnings surprises, at least for cyclical/global growth firms.
