How much money is in your...

checking account right now? The reason I ask:
1. When I go to a walk up ATM I look at receipts that have been left on the counter. I'm amazed at how many show a balance of less than $100.
2. I know a lot of middle aged people who whine about overdraft charges. I can understand this for young people but by 40 you ought not to be cutting it that close.

$73.00, once a couple of checks clear. My checking account doesn't pay interest; why would I have any money in it?

i'm depositing my paycheck, but 600 of that goes into savings

I keep less than $1,000 at all times, except I transfer in to pay the rent. A couple weeks ago it got down to about $35 for a while.
These days it's so easy to instantly and electronically transfer from savings to checking that we make an effort to keep as much in savings as possible, for the interest. Those extra 80 cents a month are all that's staving off bankruptcy.
Also, we have free "overdraft protection" meaning if we do write a bad check they'll automatically cover it out of our savings account, no charge. I think we only get two free 'whoops' a year though, then they start to charge us.

Yea, I keep enough in checking to pay the bills and mabye withdraw some cash once in a while. Nothing significant since its so easy to transfer money around.
Right now there's $414 in my checking and about $300 in bills that have yet to clear.

So, why don't you combine Savings 1 and Savings 2?

I remember seeing about a company that would sell you bogus ATM receipts, showing one having thousands of dollars in their checking account, for folks like these to be able to leave lying around their car, so others (i.e., dates or friends riding in your car) would actually think you're a real baller and not a deadbeat.

post this on OT and you will get no less than 5 grand responses, they are big ballers

I did a search for this post (it had a link to the website you could get the fake receipts from) but it seems to have disappeared.

Savings 1 is tied to Paypal....

One day I pulled into a gas station that I never frequent and filled up. I always pay cash. But I noticed a receipt sticking out of the credit card pay slot. I pulled it out. It had MY NAME on it. It was like the twilight zone. My real name is very uncommon. I drove home and called my son. He had been to that station 10 minutes before me and used his credit card for gas.

Sorry, I meant why not combine savings 2 and 3.

A few hundred (less than 500, more than 100).
I'm pretty broke, but I have no outstanding debts, which is all I'm concerned about at this point in my life.

Would that be considered kind of weird, checking through people's receipts that they left?

I have no idea really. > than 700 but <4000. I'd have to logon or go to the bank to find out. FWIW, looking at the reciepts is weird.
