I'm looking at a website where you can look up the credentials of stockbrokers, financial advisers, etc. There's one in particular who took the Series 65 and/or 66 exam 11 times over the course of 15 years, and failed every time. Are they really that hard, or is he just a dumbass?

Oh yeah, and took the Series 63 exam 3 times before passing.

I'm sure some superstars are going to come on here and tell you that it's easy. That being said, I took the 66 last Monday and made 79. Took the series 7 on the 4th of August and made a 82. If you study strategically and don't spread it out over too long of a timeframe, it's not hard, just a tough test.

Superstar here, I took the 66 nine days after the 7 and got an 88. My advice is if you're interested is go to Kaplans live class, I did mine in Houston and the instructor only taught what you need to know, could have made the book 1/4 the size. If you try to know every detail you will trip yourself up.

Series 7= 94
Series 66= 88

If I recall correctly. That was in late 2000 I think.

The 66 sucks, no way around it, it's so boring. But that website doesn't make sense, the 66 and 663 are interchangeable now, you don't even have to take the 66 if you have the 63? Did he just take the 66 for years and then when they switched to the 63 he finally passed?

If I remember right he took the 63 a long time ago, like 20 years or so. The 66 exams were a lot more recent.

I passed the 7 and the 66 both the first time in the 80s, but the 66 is miserable to prepare for and is a bitch of a test.

You have to know the material and be able to decipher questions designed to piss you off.

With that being said if you study like you are supposed to, anyone meant to be in the industry will pass it.

Nice work.

I scored in the 80s on both in 1999.

Thanks. Been in the business 13 years and I doubt I could pass either one of them now.

I hear ya.

I had to retake the Series 66 in 2008 cause a bank I worked at, unknowingly to me, didn't keep that license active; just my 7. Assholes!

I believe I scored a 75

The 66 is tricky. It's substantially less information than the 7, but the wording is designed to trip you up. If you take your time and read the questions carefully you shouldn't have much trouble with it.

Passed the 7 on Aug 18th with an 84 and the 66 on Aug 28th with a 78. The investment material (half of the exam) translates from the 7. It's the details of the laws and regulations (USA,NASAA,Investment Advisors Act of 1940, etc.) that's designed to mess you up.

The 66 is written by corporate lawyers. Stupid exam, tricky exam. Good luck!

I would have a hard time trusting my money with someone who failed any test 11 times. If that’s what you are asking.

I took the live Kaplan class and failed the 7 the first time bc the teacher told us to avoid studying margins, which actually was a good portion of the test. I was not happy about it, got a 70 and they had literally just increased the passing rate to 72 two weeks prior. I passed the second time with a 92.

I failed the 65 the first time. Its the only test I've ever failed but i was stupid about it. I waited too long to study then my son was born early. Trying to cram for the 65 with a newborn and wife suffering severe postpartum depression does not work lol. I failed by 3 questions. 30 days later crushed it

Anyone have any advice on the 63 and 79? Haven’t studied for anything in over 4 years and am worried it’s going to be hard to get back in study mode.

Passed both the first time. Studied mainly for the 7 and then crammed for the 66.

66 is borin material. I had to take both the 7 and 66 for work and I don't even sell products. I am still scratching my head why I had to take this crap.
