re: How confident are you that Trump and his team know what they are doing with tariffs?

I’m not confident at all.
I’m pretty sickened by it in fact. I’m not rich at all. Midddle class built a nice nest egg but it’s getting hammered. My only solace is that I have time to recover

Not confident because the end goal for trump is to offset the trade imbalance and hes wanting to do that in in higher tariffs for china than we pay and they either not going to do it and the cost are going to go up anyway. I dont give a shite on cost about the cost part as long as we get huge tax cuts which they dragging their asses on.

I have no confidence in this plan. If it was a legitimate strategy it would have been rolled out in an orderly way with a clear and easily digestible objectives. None of that happened. The ends to this seem political rather than economic. Everything about this chaos seems like there is a jackass driving the bus.

Vietnam and EU have already offered 0 for 0 tariffs and the admin has said that's not good enough.
So what the hell are we doing? Nobody knows and they won't tell us.
It all smells like a bunch of BS so far. BS that leads to higher prices and more inflation for us.

I’d feel a lot better if they would show their math instead of ‘just trust us.’ Surely the Trump team has ran the numbers and have some idea of what the end game is.
They basically showed us their math in how they calculated the reciprocal tariffs and it was a complete joke. I have no confidence after that.

Yep. WMT just pulled their quarterly income forecast citing the tariffs and the possibility of having to raise price. With inflation plus 10 year yields shooting up it's hard to see the FED cutting rates.

The stated goals are reducing the trade deficits, bringing manufacturing jobs back to America, protecting domestic industries, and pressuring other countries to negotiate better trade terms or address issues like drug trafficking and immigration.
Really, it all boils down to China and they have bigger gnads than the American Public's short-term gratification mentality. The trade deficit is unlikely to shrink much. China’s global trade share has grown despite past tariffs, and countries like Vietnam and Taiwan have picked up slack, rerouting goods. They're going to give the US the flying finger.
For the average working man, this is a disaster.

Wait until the pharmaceutical tariffs are implemented.
There was some relief a few weeks ago that pharmaceuticals weren’t going to face tariffs.
Last night we learned that is certainly not the case, though the amount seems yet to be determined.

This is going right after the Republican base, going to get more republican congressmen lining up to sign the bill to take control of these tariffs.

true, but this ain't over by a long shot, and this is all self-inflicted.
Put me in the camp as having 0% confidence in Trump and Co.

Not really, but people of showing their fear and longing for the days of printing money and unsustainable debt.
Trump and his team are for more successful and intelligent than the mini money board off a a sports site that we are.
It has been worse than this and it is going to be OK.

You must not trade or invest in high volatile ETFs or stocks. You’d be looking daily and hourly setting stop losses.
If u are in a set it and forget it low risk you have nothing to worry about except be ready to buy soon.

I simply don’t think there’s anyone around Trump that would actually tell him it’s not a good idea. Coupled with the fact that he’s not ever known to admit to making a mistake. I guess in theory i understand what he’s trying to do and I hope it works in the end.
I heard it put like this, if Trump came out next week with his fly unzipped no one would tell him, everyone around him would just unzip their flies too

You have anything constructive to add to this conversation?

Your argument would make more sense if Chip Roy was the president.
However, the resolution currently advocated by Trump and co will add to the deficit.
