More common than you think at all levels of society. They'll leave the cause of death "undetermined" or something similar if there's not enough evidence of suicide.
Dignity thing with the family and allows for life insurance payout if there's a suicide clause.

Police didn't rule out suicide, they simply said there was no evidence for it. But today, the Oklahoma state medical examiner declared it an accident. No alcohol involved, but doxylamine was. Doxylamine is used as an antihistamine or to treat insomnia. Report says no heart damage from a heart attack or stroke, but an arrhythmia wouldn't have been picked up by the tests. McClendon leaves behind family, friends, ans creditors with claims for hundreds of millions of dollars. I don't think a life insurance policy is going to make the creditors disappear...

Most life insurance policies pay out for suicide, unless the policy was issued within the past 12/24 months.
