Musk bought 73,486,938 shares in Twitter with sole voting power. The stake is worth $2.89 billion, considering Twitter's last closing price of $39.31.
The SEC filing shows that the stake was acquired on March 14, more than a week ahead of Musk making statements on Twitter.

Wish I’d known that a week ago.

If you followed him on twitter you would have known he was up to something.

Why is this a big deal
Elon hates twitter and has said as much many times. It looks like he has bought just to reinstate free speech.
Maybe not important to the money board but man does it give me hope for the future.

What is the threshold needed for him to have a greater say in operations?
I feel like 9% isn't that big of a deal in terms of operations. But I'm ignorant on all of this.

He has a greater say than any other shareholder.
To influence policy, he needs friends to jump onboard.
He is the type of influencer who could achieve that.

Imo, the "big deal" is cultural/political signaling. Someone with social and economic gravitas is finally standing up for free speech principles.
Musk is firing a shot across the bow of big tech censorship. Interesting that his ownership is < 10%...for now. Should the wokesters at TWTR not get the hint, I'd bet that percentage will increase steadily until they do or are forced out.

I canceled my twitter account long ago. Deemed it a cancer of a company

This is all about Twitter's involvement in Bitcoin. That explains everything.

As far as activism investing is concerned, it's usually somewhere in the 5-10% range.

Because Twitter is the absolute beacon for anti-free speech and government mandated propaganda.
Like most people with a brain, Musk is sick of that and sought to change that. It was speculated he would maybe create his own platform, but now this may be just changing twitter from within (which would obviously be more effective).
Musk now has about 4x the shares that Jack Dorsey has of Twitter lmao

I tailed some May 44 call buys that were made on 3/25...still 15k in OI, looks like they are closing part of the position today, as did I
Good way to start the week

I like getting lucky every once in a while...follow the money, huge put sales and large call buys are always a good tell. Combine that with technicals and fundamentals and it gets easier

Dude made a billion dollars in like two days with just the appreciation of the stock since he increased his position.
