No place to park and high crime. Unbeatable combo.

A gravel/rock/dirt distributor on the river by the casino has recently closed. A lady I work with told me that condos are going to be built there. She said the development has been talked about for years so who knows when it will be built.

There's plenty of parking in Downtown BR and this complex would come with a garage. Also, crime downtown is very minimal.

I wish downtown BR would make on-the-street parking more easy/available. In most cities, you can fit a couple of hundred cars on the street in the span of a few blocks. The way they have things situated in BR, as I've noticed, you're lucky to be able to park 2 or maybe 3 cars per block.

Also, the "crime" point is an utter joke.

This is because there are a large number of driveways/alleys to get into surface parking lots. If there's a bunch of garages with only one way in and out, then there isn't this problem.

Also, BR's city blocks are relatively small.

This may not be the norm, but I have 2 friends who have been robbed in downtown Baton Rouge. I know this doesn't compare to New Orleans or anything, but was surprised to hear of it on two separate occasions.

They scrapped the idea of building it in Baton Rouge and now proceeding with construction on the riverfront in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Yes, that project has been scrapped for Baton Rouge and will locate to a much more prosperous Shreveport. The clowns in south Louisiana could learn a thing or two about real business from the north Louisiana trendsetters. You know this stuff already, Paul. I'm just preaching to the choir here.

Thank you for confirming what I heard. Paul, I can call a realtor friend of mine who can get you a good deal pre-construction on a unit overlooking the Horseshoe casino.

I hear that Japanese business men are going to fund this project and the BR loop.

I can't wait.

I don't think Baton Rouge really has a viable downtown. Its more like a Government employee campus that is DOA after 5PM. Didn't all of the big projects die on the vine for downtown BR with the exception of government projects?

A few years ago, my company moved downtown. Having grown up in N.O., I was very skeptical about going to work there. I see now that crime is not nearly what I thought it would be. I'm actually considering living downtown to shorten my commute.

Now parking is a mofo unless you have access to one of the garages or a parking lot.
