Any rumors floating around?

Guess the good thing is that the whole sector is pretty red today. SLI definitely getting the worst of it, but it is at least somewhat market related. If this was happening on a general green day, I'd be much more concerned.

Quick scan of the interwebs doesn't show any negative news/hit pieces. In fact, looks like yesterday's bump was likely in large part because another hedge bought into SLI last quarter and reported it yesterday. Not a huge position, but over $750k and just another example of an institution buying in.

Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM) is planning to build one of the world's largest lithium processing facilities in Arkansas, with a capacity to produce 75K-100K metric tons/year of lithium, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. At that scale, the plant's production would equate to ~15% of all finished lithium produced globally last year. The giant project could be built in stages, with modular trains constructed together or in separate locations near its future lithium production sites in south Arkansas, according to the report. Other companies including Standard Lithium (SLI) and Tetra Technologies (TTI) are planning to build capacity in the area. The Smackover formation, a geologic trend that runs from Texas to Florida, is rich with saltwater brine which contains small amounts of lithium, and the companies are increasingly optimistic they can scale up technologies to extract it.

Well… I wonder how this plays out

Hmmm. Maybe XOM will save themselves some time and buyout SLI. They certainly have the money to do it.

Exxon's 10Q from March shows $32B in Cash and Cash Equivalents so if they could slip SLI just 3 of those we can skip into the sunset with $17 a share
