I'm glad to see the Koch affiliate companies lineup on this. I have no doubt that they can get it into gear.

I had a different reaction. It seems they did not bid the study out but awarded it to the obvious firm that invested $100MM. So in a sense this is a giant nothing burger

Yea but in a sense Koch now has really seen under the hood or will at least. As long as they stay in then we can really believe this DLE tech works.

I would rather an independent company review this rather than someone who has 100 million tied up in it. Just my thoughts

Agree, although I read the release as Koch's group is running point with 3rd party involvement

The resource itself (brine leases), their geographic location, established permitting and Koch's political connections are the real value at this point. The fact he hasn't bailed or trimmed his position leads me to believe they feel the project has merit. A govt contract or funding with positive results would/will be an enormous catalyst.

This type of operation is on everyone's mind and at this point SLI seems best positioned to commercialize

Why do you think that? The press release says "The Company completed a competitive FEED/DFS selection process and is pleased to award the contract to OPD LLC, a Koch-owned business based in Katy, Texas."

And you would want to keep as many outsiders off the project as possible. Industrial espionage is real.

Oh, I guess they did bid it. But from an outsider's perspective, it could have the appearance of keeping everything under wraps

LINK

quote:

Electric car giant Tesla is evaluating the feasibility of a lithium hydroxide refining facility on the gulf coast of Texas.

Tesla said the plant would be focused on the development of “battery-grade lithium hydroxide” and be “the first of its kind in North America,” according to a letter to the Texas Comptroller’s Office.

If Tesla’s application is approved, construction could begin in the fourth quarter of 2022, the company said. The project will reach “commercial operations” by the fourth quarter of 2024.

Smackover,

Are you in on Tetra? To me it seems like the safest pick.

No. And Tetra sold all their shares of SLI I believe.

With Lanxess stock being down lower than even early pandemic levels, should Koch industries acquire a controlling interest? Or maybe just the brine operations?

That would be wild.

There aren't any project along the coast of Texas that don't take a year or two to work through logistics, an environmental impact study alone would take months. Not saying it couldn't happen at some point but that timeline is very unrealistic.

Perhaps, but I could see politicians fast tracking a project like this.

It may be a decent buy. They are selling product as fast as they can make it. Haven't looked at their financials recently. They're not going out of business. World needs bromine.

With the amount of demand for lithium, I don’t see it lighting any fires sadly. But I hope it does, I have JetSki’s to buy…..

Inflation remains high, interest rates on the move up, companies like this with no income and no income any time soon get crushed.
