Now I'll end up cancelling unless they offer a huge retention offer.
If you already have the Plat, then your fee isn't going to hit until 2022. I saw the $695 and laughed too. Then I realized my AF doesn't change until NOv 2022, so I get all these extras until then without paying for them.
CLEAR isn't in HNL, so it doesn't really help too much, but I'm going to sign up since it's included in my current benefits and my $550 AF.
Also, I immediately signed up for Audible and Peacock as that equals $20 a month so that's now included free to me until 2022.
Equinox looks like a dud.
That $200 hotel credit looks like a dud too. I'm going to the Bengals @ Raiders game in Nov to check Burreaux throw to Chase and got sweet rates at Caesars just by being a reward member. I checked Caesars rates through AMEX travel and it was way beyond what I paid. And to get the credit and benefits you have to book 2 nights.
So overall, I'm very likely to cancel on Nov 11, 2022

Have to be on IG... just search The Points Guy account and find the post about Amex Platinum.
605 comments as of now. Looks like some BOTs have gotten involved towards the end and tried to steer the convo positive.

What do y’all recommend the best first step is to get points/status with a particular hospitality group?
I live in Atlanta so primarily fly Delta, the platinum skymiles AMEX has been solid. I’m a novice to the points game but would something like the Hilton AMEX be worthwhile?

Hyatt is easiest points program to get good value on free nights. Their card sign up bonus is just OK but you'll end up with free nights faster. If you're loyal to a brand, they all have cards. Hilton has plenty of levels, from $0 annual fee to $450 annual fee with premium perks, flight credits, etc.

Just recently got the Amex Reserve. I travel 60% of my job and just started getting per diem for food. So eating at the sky club when traveling versus spending $30 on a burger and beer. After a year I also get a a companion round trip ticket of any fare. So for me, the perks and how much I travel for work makes the $550 annual fee justified.

My Chase Sapphire Reserve renews on September 1 with the new $550 fee. I’m going to cancel as I don’t travel near as much as I used to so I have no need to a premium card that benefits mostly travel. I haven’t done any churning in many years so I am looking for which card has the best sign up bonus right now. I just need to buy some time until around the end of the year because my main card will be the Fold bitcoin rewards card.

My CSR just renewed and they gave me a $100 statement credit to offset the annual fee, just in case it would change your mind. If you still don't want it, downgrade to a card like the Chase Freedom Unlimited since it's $0 annual fee and will keep the length of your credit line going as opposed to canceling.

Was that automatic or did you have to call them? I have 2 coming up for renewal (myself and wife), and I really don't want to pay it twice

Mine is Aug. I'm considering canceling as well, mainly to get the 100k bonus on the CSP. I'd still go back to the CSR after a while as I have 1.5mm UR and that 1.5 on the portal is sweet sometimes. PLus after the benefits I get from the CSR it's not that much more then the CSP.

This is the problem I see with cards with some travel or hotel rewards. When they require you to use their booking services for reservations the financial incentives vanish or even invert into a negative.
Of course I don't spend most of my time traveling, so there are probably people who have a different experience

They gave it to me automatically, got an email a month or so before the renewal. It never hurts to ask for a retention offer even if you don't actually plan on canceling, they'll sometimes give you a retention offer even on $0 fee cards. Amex is more generous than Chase in that respect.
EDIT: Rumors are that renewals after Aug 1 will be $550. Can still call to try and get an offer.

I was fine with the Amex fee hike but now the CSR too. Atleast Amex was adding benefits. Chase just messed with the value proposition. This is all getting rather tiresome. I’ll be at $1800+ in fees. I know most of that are prepaid expenses that I would have regardless, but it’s just isn’t as much fun to play the game. I don’t find flight deals anymore, hotel point redemptions and point transfers (looking at you Marriott) are under 1:1. Once Hyatt gets with the times their value will change as well.
My plan as of now is keeping one CSR with an AU, downgrade the Platinum to the cheapest no foreign transactions fee card, and book everything through the easiest method.

Just got a promo for the 100k Sapphire Preferred. Any reason not to scoop it up?
We're currently using the CSR (wife's) for everything, but I am eligible to have a Sapphire cared again after previously having CSR in 2018.
Was thinking get and transfer points to CSR amount.

I assume you got the bonus in 2018? You have to wait 48 months from getting a Sapphire bonus before you're eligible for another one. If your wife received her bonus more than 48 months ago you can product change her card to a fee free card and then apply for the preferred 4 days later.

I'd scoop it if I were eligible.
My wife has a CSR that I may strategically cancel just to do so. She'd be eligible.

We are keeping her CSR for the travel benefits.
It has been more than 48 months since I had my Sapphire bonus.
I assume it would still work if I get the CSP, get the bonus, then transfer the 100k to her bucket of reward points?

Yes, but the 100K is rumored to be ending soon (like tomorrow).

Oh ok I saw 2018 and assumed that was when you got the card. Yeah you can get the bonus and transfer to the CSR for the higher redemption. Although I you'll likely have to call Chase or send a secure message to transfer the points. For some reason they have removed the ability to transfer between household cards online. You can still do it if you had made a transfer previously but not between new cards.

Thanks everyone!
I'm going to apply today. The email does say that I have through 7/30.
Wondering if I should try and churn Ink too. I haven't looked into churning in years though. Have the restrictions tightened on non-business owners opening business cards?
