Just got the AMEX platinum 100k offer. Annual fee is 550. Is this worth it. We are teting to plan a Europe trip this summer, but not sure if it is worth the 550 fee. We already have tsa precheck but not global entry. Trip is for 4.

I've been getting that offer every few months for the last few years. One day I'll probably pull the trigger on it

Wondering the same thing, got a wedding/honeymoon coming up. Think I've been convinced with the 100K being worth so much itself, and the hotel upgrade benefits seem to be worth it once you add on the $200 each uber and airline credits. Might hold out until the last minute of the offer, though to double-dip on the airline credits since they reset every calendar year.

Do you travel with DL / home airport have a centurion lounge? How many times are you flying/staying in hotels a year.

You will definitely get $550 worth of value out of the card for a year with the 100k offer but still it is a high AF to throw down for people

Home airport is atl so delta is our primary. We stay in hotels about 20-25 days a year.

Does the 100K bonus really come up that often? I already have CSR+Ink with a ton of UR points. Ideally I wouldn't want to get the Platinum until May or so to really take advantage of the benefits in 1 year in case I decide to churn and burn, since so many overlap with the CSR. If this'll be the last time I'll ever see 100K I'll pull the trigger sooner for the extra signup points.

I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I get a targeted 100k mailer about every quarter, on average. I'm sure the day I decided to move on the offer the next time it comes around, I'll never see one again

Looks like I'm going to Cancun in mid June, ideally from BTR. As it pertains to flights, any UR transfers that would be particularly useful, or am I best off with my 1.5x CSR portal award?

Would it be beneficial to use southwest in New Orleans?

Check into using UR at the all inclusive Hyatt property down there.

Not only does your UR redemption cover the room, but also all the food and drink, which makes it about as valuable/if not more than Vendoming in Paris.*

Usually used with the Hyatt free night certs but may be something to look at with a transfer.

*This may not be still accurate but I haven't seen anything saying it has changed to exclude food/drink. So Google that

After I said that I was planning on fricking up the hotel block (we are staying at the Hyatt Ziva), I was offered a heavily subsidized rate in order to incentivize me to stay in

So hotel is sorted. Now I'm just dealing with these absurdly overpriced flights...

May be a PITA but see if you can book an AA flight with Avios.

May work well even with two segments, or if you pay for one segment and Avios the other, etc.

See, this is why I use all of my UR on Hyatt stays and just book through the portal the few times I want to use miles for flights

Well this is more of result of flying out of BTR and the Avios redemption problem/how close that flight is.

I'm heading to Africa and back in Biz in March, and Asia in Biz in October. I just save up for those and pay out of pocket for the small stuff.

Though, if I wasn't lazy I could cover the small stuff too, but I prefer the big trip biz class redemptions.

I could see why someone wouldn't want to learn all the ins and outs though

You can no longer have both the CSR and CSP at the same time. So when you cancel wife's CSR, get her a CSP for the bonus. Then cancel in year 2. No reason to have both CSR and CSP in the same household. Definitely add the Ink for 80K bonus points plus very good points earning.

I just signed up for the CFU for myself and added my wife as an authorized user. My question is, I just booked a vacation and used her CSR to go ahead and get her $300 travel credit for 2018 applied. We got her card in September 2016, I'm trying to decide when to cancel her CSR and get her the CSP. Don't want to lose the travel credit that was just added to her account. Should I wait until after the vacation (March 2018) to cancel her card and apply for the CSP? Also, make sure I transfer her points to my account before doing that as well.

I've not cancelled too many cards, would I be able to cancel her CSR and have her apply for the CSP in the same few days?

In other news the process to buy Walmart gift cards online sucks. Guess I should have been buying a little bit at a time for the last month or so instead of dropping coin in one transaction.

Look at it this way, you will pay the "Travel Credit" when you pay the $450 annual fee, so it's a sunk cost. So you might as well try to cancel to avoid the $450 fee and see if the $300 credit sticks, because if you don't try to cancel you'll still be out the $300 at issue here.

Anywho, from what I've read people do this all the time but won't be able to going forward since Chase changed the timing of the travel credit.

As for applying for CSP, I'd wait a couple of weeks instead of days. You want to make sure CSR has cleared their system.

Reading this thread occasionally and the recent one on the Cap one venture, I have finally reached the point where I am ready to move on from the Venture. I am trying to determine the best strategy going forward.

My renewal fee for the Venture is not until May. My wife and I typically put 3k to 4k a month on it. We only occasionally travel (one big trip and a couple weekends here and there) and we typically drive. We are planning a trip to Disney with the kids in about a year and I have read that the UR could be used if you call them to book. After the Disney trip, my primary goal would be to travel and cover the hotel expense wherever we decide to go. With four young kids, we won’t be taking any elaborate or overseas vacations in the near future.

My original thought is to get either the Chase Reserve (50k signup bonus) or Chase Preferred (50k signup bonus plus 5k authorized user) and the Chase Freedom. I do not have a business so am not eligible for the Ink. In May, I would then get the Chase Unlimited and eliminate the Venture completely at that point. I am leaning toward the CSP because of the annual fee being waived the first year, the extra 5k UR, and the fact that we rarely fly. We probably spend enough on travel and dining, however, to offset the $50 extra the Reserve would cost year 2 after considering the $300 travel credit and $95 CSP fee. I also thought about getting the CSR for myself and the CSP in my wife’s name with me as an authorized user and canceling it after a year. Can any of the pros at this recommend a better strategy or see any issues with what I am considering?
