I probably spent about 1/3 of that and likely generated more points.
You almost do too much spending at home improvement stores to goose that
I'd usually suggest getting a Lowe's/HD gift card somewhere you earn 5x then go to the store, etc, but that would probably be a nightmare for you.
The flip side is, I wouldn't usually suggest buying big ticket items you may return with GCs since you'd be stuck with store credit, but with your volume you're likely not to be "stuck" so that works in your favor.
Then again, you're generating a RT business class ticket to Asia/Africa every year so maybe you don't need more.
At a minimum, get a Chase Freedom Unlimited for 1.5 spending everywhere.
Of course Reserve will have a bigger bonus etc, but you don't look like someone who wants to get complicated.

Possible. A lot of that was business expenses so I don't have time to point chase or fool with gift cards. Like I said, I have a "luxury" black card too that has at least the same money spent on it from this year and it generates way better points for me than my Chase card does plus it has awesome benefits that suit me. Waiting on the year end report from it.
The points on both of the cards are a nice bonus for money I have to spend anyway is the way I look at it.

What issuer? I assume Amex but a few other banks have a black card now. Oddly enough, the earn structure on most luxury black cards are absolute shite, but probably because those that have them don't care, and want the other benefits that come with it.
You should take my advice on the Freedom Unlimited then. You'd do better vs regular Freedom, outside of maybe one quarter if home improvement is a 5x category.

Barclays
Yea that's pretty much it with me. The 2% redemptions for flights is what benefits me the most with that card but like you said the other benefits are what matter to me.
I'll look into it. Thanks for the advice.

No problem.
One more thing, if you aren't going to pair your Freedom with Reserve/Preferred/or Ink Business, then you aren't maximizing how much UR can be worth, leaving your Freedom Unlimited as 1.5% cash back.
In which case I'd get a Citi Double Cash and call it a day at 2% cash back if you aren't married to Chase. About $750 to $1,500 more cash back at 150k spending vs 1.5 and 1% cash back.

Looking to max out 5/24 rule. Do business cards (I have Ink Business Preferred) not count at all against 5/24? Or am I just allowed to get more business cards even after I've maxed out 5/24? Currently sitting at 4-5/24 depending on the answer but most are about to fall off, looking to jump on some new offers.
Goals: I have an upcoming wedding that I'll be charging, and planning to maximize rewards for Italy honeymoon. Also to re-up Companion Pass starting Jan '19. I have approx 160K UR from CSR + Ink. Looking to get AMEX Platinum as I was targeted for 100K sign-up. I was thinking getting AMEX Business Gold after I hit spend amount so that I have sign-up bonuses for each, that way I'll have enough UR & MR to play with for honeymoon. I just don't want to screw up my 5/24 for companion pass. Any other ideas for another card is appreciated, may churn and burn the CSP and transfer 50K to CSR if I've got room on the 5/24.

really wish they would wave the annual fee the first year. Card seems like it's just meh with the AF.

They aren’t going to waive the annual fee when they give you
~$500 with of points
$250 off at a Hilton resort propert
$250 airline credit (which can be used to get SW GC)
And one free weekend night
That’s about $1200ish of stuff
Not to mention diamond

I've been reading on this a lot. No one seems to know for sure, but the general thought seems to be that business cards don't appear on your credit score, so they don't apply to 5/24 at all because Chase doesn't know youvhave them. Chase business cards being the exception because obviously they can see which of their products you have.
2 quick Amex notes:
- When I went to their page today not signed in to my account, I saw increased signup bonuses for the personal gold(up to 50,000 from 25,000) and the personal SPG(up to 30,000 from 25,000).
- I've looked into the Amex program a lot the last few days after my previous 2 posts. If I do end up keeping the platinum card it will be switching over the the Charles Schwab version. All the same benefits and same annual fee, plus you can transfer points into a CS brokerage account for $0.0125/point. That seems to be the easiest way to redeem points for cash, and you get it at 1.25/1 instead of 1/1. All you need is a brokerage account with Charles schwab, which is free to open if you don't already. Anyone have experience with this?

Can anyone help steer me towards a credit card that I can earn a good amount of points for airmiles? We have to fly to Berlin this summer so if I could find a card that awards a ton of bonus miles for spending x amount of dollars in the first month or so, I would take it and use that buy one or both tickets depending how far those miles get me. Hoping someone could help point me in the right direction.

Do you have a particular airline(s) in mind?
Are you looking for just the signup bonus(spend x amount in first month)? Or will you also be able to accrue a lot of miles/points in a short time with normal spending?
United' signup bonuses all appear to be back down to 40,000-50,000.
American expesss was running good signup bonuses for their Delta cards, I think 60,000 for gold and 70,000 for platinum. They're not up on the Amex site anymore but you may still be able to find them through a referral link.
Barclays has this card that gets 60,000 American Airlines miles after your first purchase and paying the $95 annual fee. LINK
Additionally, citi's AA card also has a 60,000 signup bonus when you spend $3000 in the first 3 months. LINK
I don't know how many "we" is but each of you could sign up for both and get a minimum of 123,000 miles on American for spending $3000 you might usually spend anyway. That should be able to go a pretty long way for flights to Berlin. You'll probably have to transfer the miles to one of American's partner airlines in One World. I don't know very much about that right now so someone else would have to help there. I'm also not very well versed yet on the value of 120,000 AA miles vs 130,000 Delta miles vs 90,000 United miles vs points with AMEX, Chase, or capital one, or how easy it is to book tickets with points with any of those programs.
Hopefully this at least helps you get started. Any more information you can give about what your looking for, what airline, your trip, your current card sutuation, etc. would he helpful.

To be honest he should have started accumulating points a long time ago for this trip.
This close in I'd probably recommend hitting hotel cards or ones that provide cash, like Arrival+ and Venture.

Ideally yes, but there's still some decent airline card offers out there to get a lot of points quickly if he can hit the signup bonuses quickly.
I thought about venture because of 2x miles on everything, but he doesn't have a lot of time to build on that. I'm curious why you say the hotel cards? I thought about that with the new Hilton cards out, but most of the airlines are a 10/1 transfer ratio with HH. So eventhe 100,000 signup bonus would only be 10,000 miles, right? Or are you saying that to take care of their hotel needs on the trip?
