UR points value is derived from the ability to transfer to partners. Simply put, I'd take 40k UR points all day over 70k Marriot points.

That's fair.

I'm not really interested in comparing the two because it's complicated. Teddy enjoys typing out dissertations on the subject. Maybe he'll drop in when he gets done pretending to work.

You're such a dick.

I'm not writing a damn thing either.

I know. That's why I was asking my question. I currently have the regular sapphire, but I am thinking about getting the Preferred. I am basically just trying to figure out if the ability to transfer really makes that big of a difference.

Yes it does. Sapphire Preferred points give you a 20% bonus when booking travel through UR AND you get a 7% bonus to your points earned each year.

70000 Marriott points are worth 23000 UR when it comes to transferring points out to an airline. You tell me if those 70000 Marriott points are more valuable than 4000 UR points.

I should have prefaced this statement by saying that ultimately it depends on what you plan to use the points for but clearly UR points are far more valuable for air travel than Marriott points.

Office Max currently has a three point bonus through UR. It's also currently running a $20 off any $100 purchases special, but it's not available for gift card purchases.

If one has a credit card for years and then you threaten to cancel, do they offer you anything to stick around like a cable company would?

This would be purely a gimmick by me, as our Southwest Visa has been nothing but great (4 year old has free travel status and we have multiple other free flights yearly). Since we originally got the card we have gotten over 500,000 points on it, but I'm not sure we have done anything to prove ourselves good clients except put points on it (ie we always pay on time)

From what I have read, Chase is pretty militant about not waiving annual fees. Beyond that, I'm not sure what you would be looking for as a carrot. I don't see any company throwing points at you

It's hit or miss with them from what I've read on flyertalk etc. Some get points, some don't. But yeah, the fee is hardly ever waived.

With that kind of spending you probably could get 3-6k points.
quote:

Southwest Airlines Plus
1/23/2014 - Sent secure message. 3000 points
4/4/2014 - 3000 points. Spent $3K last year.

Southwest Airlines Premier
12/9/2013 - Called twice. No offer. Cancelled. 3k Chase GC spend. Last year 3k points
8/5/13 3,000 pts
1/20/2014 - Cited Southwest devaluation. Offered nothing. Cancelled on the spot. $2.5k spend, mostly on CGCs
3/15/14 less than 5K spend. No offer. Moved CL and cancelled

It's a shame, really. With as much overlap as there is between Ink, Bold, and CSP, it would be nice to see a one and done annual fee system, but that's just me dreaming.

The annual fee doesn't bother me as long as the points accrued justifies it. I have no inclination to have 2,3,4 or more Citi Executive cards rolling to churn them for miles.

Marriott points recently got devalued as well.

Freaking sucks because I have about 180k of them

I am aiming for about 250k and going to use them on one of the air+hotel combos, then be done with Marriott points.

this may seem like an out of place post, but if anyone has amex blue cash, and is a golfer, this is a really good rewards deal i found on slickdeals

3 dozen taylormade project A balls for 42 bucks

normally 32/dozen in store

quote:

American Express is running a promotion on 3 dozen TaylorMade Project (a) Golf Balls for $44. The only caveat is you would need reward dollars from their Blue cash card. If you dont have any, ask a buddy who might be willing to trade cash for their AMEX cashwootwoot

These are new for 2014 golf balls from Taylormade, I personally haven't played them yet but the description fits exactly what I need for my mid-handicapper self. $14.66/box is worth a shot, going rate online is $31.99 for 1 dozen.

Just FYI, make sure you purchase the 3 dozen option on the AMEX Blue Cash "Reward Dollars Catalog", they also have a 1 dozen option which is also for $44.00. Its odd but you will receive 3 dozen if you select the 3 dozen option.

FYI Chasers, Chase has added Singapore Airlines as a transfer partner. Apparently great for those luxury trips. Singapore also has transfers with SPG and Amex MR so multiple routes to fill up an account if you ever want to go crazy.

Doubt I'd use it as I try to avoid fuel charges, but someone might find use here

I also want to share this 30,000 united miles for Direc TV. Since I'm moving next week I think I might just do it. I figure if the signal goes out I have plenty of ways using internet to cover the gap.

If you do sign up, would you mind accepting a referral?

We both get a 10 dollar discount for it, for 10 months

Croacka@gmail.com

And don't worry about the signal

Mines only gone out 3 or 4 times in the 2+ years I've had it
