Amex Platinum will be increasing their fee to $550. The only big benefit change is a $15/month use it or lose it Uber credit plus VIP status.
Amex is going the wrong. Unless they loosen the $200 travel credit requirements, they will churn a lot of customers.
I find Chase's customer service to be superior as well. Amex has a damn IVR on a $450 card. Even the CSP didn't have that.

Wow, the platinum wasnt even worth the 450 fee. I just dont understand AMEX's thoughts behind this.

Unless they are overhauling Uber VIP, its a completely worthless benefit at least in New Orleans. VIP is based solely off of driver rating, so many of the "VIP" drivers i've had in New Orleans are brand new to Uber. Cars were the same shite boxes you often get with Uber X. Often it doubles your wait time as well since it will bypass lower rated drivers closer to your location.

For me, the big sticking point is the $200 travel credit. It's very restrictive. It basically covers checked bags on your opted in airline. I never check baggage so there isnt any benefit. Some people have luck getting credit after purchasing gift cards. That still requires gaming the system opposed to how seemlessly the CSR functions.
The new Uber credit is essentially the limited coupon of the month they always offer applied to the account. Amex now gets $100/yr to let Uber tap into their top accounts.

So basically they increased the AF $100 and you can now receive $200 annually in Uber credits. So $$100 net positive.

Correct. However, assume you use the Uber credit and airline credit. Is there $150 of value in the card? For frequent delta or centurion lounge users. Certainly.
Chase raised the bar and Amex needed to answer. I hoped that it was going to be a similar situation to the cellphone unlimited plans. Amex could have made a splash but I think they fell flat. Chase's has the 1.5 point bonus, Citi has the 4th night free. Amex has lounges.

I tested the reimbursement process with a $50 Delta e-gift card. The reimbursement went through the next day. I'll try again next month for the remaining credit.

Somebody educate me on how the Flying Blue website works. I've seen it mentioned as a useful tool in this thread before, but I can't seem to figure it out. All I can find (as far as promo award flights go) are flights out of Europe.
The wife and I are looking to book a flight out of Atlanta to Athens in June and are hoping to fly business class. I'm trying to figure out if we should use up nearly all of our CSR points, or if I should pay for the ticket and then possibly upgrade our class using points. Anybody have any experience doing this, or know where the best place to look would be?

The eCredit loophole for the amex platinum has worked for me going on 4 years now. Just buy them in $50 increments.

It makes a ton of sense is they are targeting solo travelers while removing a lot of the CC rewards abusers
If you use the Uber credit, it is a net positive. Plus their lounge access is easily the best for a solo traveler + 5x travel overall
It makes it a garbage card, unless you are in the category of people who they want to target. Then it is super legit

Was that CSR signup bonus the best ever? I don't play the credit card game, but my wife and I both got it and the $3000 in free travel that came with it. how often do deals like that happen?

Have some big expenses coming up in the next month plus a Paris trip to go on - which card to get next?
I have: CSR, CSP, Freedom Unlimited, Ink Plus for about 210k CUR total
Wife has: CSR, Freedom Unlimited
My thoughts now: Barclay arrivalplus 50k bonus (for random travel expenses), Hyatt card (would probably only be able to use the passes for Park Hyatt NY in next year), SPG (good bonus now)
Not interested in SW cards/bonus for companion pass since I don't get enough vacation now to make it worthwhile.
Anything I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

SPG for sure in my opinion

The signup bonus along with the perks of the card probably made it the best ever. Amex Platinum has offered 100K in the past but the card is a lot weaker.

I wonder if the CSR will still have a targeted 100k offer. I'm going to try my luck this weekend in a branch to get approved. I'm literally days away from being under 5/24.

3/12 is the cutoff date right?

Apply near the last day. Your application is good for 30 days. So once that account falls off and under 5/24. Call reconsideration (assuming you get denied) and then they will push you through.

Do they take into account authorized users? For accounts I opened up, I will be under 5 by the end of the month but i have a couple of authorized user cards from my wife's account.

Yes they do, and you should have requested to have those AUs removed.
Apparently, the rule is if you have 1 AU that is keeping you in violation of 5/24, you can call recon to ask them to ignore it. But with you having multiple AUs you may face some hurdles. It's a no lose situation for you to apply and say "Hey, I have only opened 4 accounts in the last few years, what's the deal?" "Sir, we show you have 8 accounts" "I'm not financially responsible for those accounts I'm an AU on 4 of those."
Hope they go with it.
The worst that can happen is they still deny you and you don't get $1,500, which is what happens if you don't apply.
