How long until Chase phases out the Ink 5x card?
I want to downgrade from Ink+ to Inkcash to avoid the AF. Don't know if I can make it
Ink+ has been my one permanent pay-the-fee Chase card for the last few years, which I was considering phasing out now that I have a CSR, but now I'm a little antsy...
Fortunately (what am I saying?) I just paid my annual fee a couple of months ago, so I have some time to figure it out.

There is the Ink Cash no AF which is the same for $25k/year spend instead of $50k

Yeah but can't avoid BA YQ with AA either.
When it comes to awards to Europe, filter out BA or even London completely.
This is true but...sometimes there are exceptions that make it worthwhile.
For instance, I was looking at going to Italy on BA next March. If I flew out of Philly the fees were under $200 for first class despite the fact that I was flying on BA through Heathrow.

Hmm. Seems like that flight just includes the government fees and lower fuel surcharge from BA. On the MSY-LHR flight it was something like $530 of BA imposed fuel.

I flew dfw-lhr round trip for 40k aa miles and $200 in April. There are American branded flights that don't have the massive surcharge but you have to look for them.

I booked a few nights in a cabin in Asheville and the transaction posted. However, not only did it not count as travel it also isn't using my travel credit. Any way I can fix this? I was counting on using the remainder of my travel credit for the year on this. It's basically an AirBnB that has a few different cabins.
edit: Looking at TPG article on this, it seems "websites renting vacation homes" (which this probably registers as) don't count. Yet AirBNB does? I know they have a very wide definition but this is pretty stupid.

You can send Chase a SM on the matter and see what they say. The site is probably using some third party payment processor and that's what Chase is using to code the transaction.

Gene, I'll say this man I just disputed my first charge with the JP Morgan Reserve and American Express blows away chase customer service in that regard and makes me still wish I had my amex. We went to a hotel pool yesterday with some friends and the waitress took my card after 30 minutes brought it back with no drinks and said the printer was down so she'd bring them as soon as she could, another 30 minutes later, no drinks I said cancel it please. I got charged the money + tip when I checked, it wasn't pending, it was charged, and when I called chase I had to open a dispute, answer questions and give them a whole rundown of what happened and they still gave me the number to the hotel to try and ask them if they'd reverse it to make it easier......the few chargebacks I ever did with amex were no questions asked we're sorry for the inconvenience.

Still sounds better than the Barclay service. My magnetic strip quit working so I called them up only to find out that it will be at least 10 business days before receiving a new one. That is grade A bush league.
Everyone still happy with their CSR for the most part?

as a consumer, i love how convenient the amex process is.
as just a person thinking about situations like that though, i would totally call the location first, and then if unresolved call the card and expect some questions/research.
the chase process, honestly, sounds like the more "reasonable" of the two.

The problem is I called the hotel and they transferred me to the bar yesterday and the manager says my receipt is signed and I said there is no chance in hell I signed it bc we were sitting by the pool and she gave me the card without a receipt and without a drink. He said they will have to review cameras and get back to me. So someone scribbled something thats not my signature on it, I hate being so petty over $52 but thats way too much for 2 drinks + tip to begin with, and its incredibly too much when I didn't even get the drinks. I just like Amex more bc it would've taken 2 minutes to resolve it all instead of me wasting 30 minutes calling chase and then calling the hotel and waiting for a transfer to the poolside bar.

I'm surprised they did this for a Reserve card, I could see it for a lower card for sure. Either way, this stuff happens so infrequently to me that it doesn't matter. Wouldn't be surprised if they mixed up receipts given what you described

I will say that CSR hotline always picks up in 15-30 seconds for me. When I call about my other cards, I call the CSR line and make them look up my other accounts

thats not being petty at all. id be upset by a lot less than that.

obviously, and i agreed that it was way easier.
my point was that when judging if a company is being reasonable in expectations -- calling the person whos charge you are disputing and answering a few questions is an incredibly reasonable standard. Amex is essentially unreasonably easy

So for some reason the wife and her sister want to go on a cruise. Is there a good way to do that with Chase points?
Posted on 10/26/16 at 9:35 pm to NoSaint
I've had countless problems with chase customer service when it comes to disputes. They are nowhere close to Amex.
Posted on 10/26/16 at 11:44 pm to HollierThanThou
Well Chase does not code it that way. Lesson learned. Don't use third party or VRBO hoping to get a travel credit. Hotel direct or AirBnb or bust.
Now have to figure out what to use $470 of travel credit by years end between myself and the wife. Not hard to do but the ancillary costs are the problem. If only dog boarding counted...
