The 450 is charged to your card the second the account opens.
And if you think about it, 450-300 credit annually= 150 to hold the card. My chase United world explorer has a $95 fee and all I really get out of it is 1:1 and no checked bag fees on United. But here's the kicker, other airlines will hit you for the fee even on reward travel booked with the card. Air canada just taught me that little lesson.

Just a data point - Amex clawed back my 100k for cancelling the card.

Should have spent them first

How'd they do that? How long did you have the card? Was it your only Amex?
I cancelled my Platinum, but still have blue and my rewards are still showing the same. I would flip my shite if they took my points. I've never seen a stipulation stating they could talk point back after meeting the spend requirement.
I'm guessing that was your only card and once you cancelled, they closed the rewards site?

Be careful downgrading CSR or CSP to freedom. You lose the ability to transfer to travel partners.
However, you can always reapply for CSP again later when you're ready to transfer.

The cool side of this though is you can then have multiple freedoms which means you get more than $1,500 per quarter to max out at 5x.

Member since 01 and I had two other Amex Cards including a Green Card.

The front line support said it was due to returns (I had none) and because I cancelled the card "too soon."
For the record there was no manufactured spend and they did not mention that in the phone call.
I asked her to file a complaint on my behalf, which she did.

Apparently Amex is charging some people who used up their points. They're now sitting on -100,000 points.

You see RadPad payments are coding as travel for the CSR?
Wish I still rented

Parking meters on the streets of Austin are too
I love how there are no guessing games with it, clear line items labeled travel credit

How do you know they did that for cancelling the card? Did you MS at all? Because if you did - that is the reason for the clawback.
If they indeed clawed back for cancelling, you should dispute that. File a CFPB complaint and then send them a claim to go into arbitrage. Nowhere in the T&Cs does it state that you can't cancel the card in order to keep the 100K. Its spend $3000 and get 100K.

I already have Freedom/ CSR
I want to downgrade old CSP to FreedomUnlimited.
You are saying any point I earn on my new Freedom Unlimited cannot transfer back to my CSR?

speaking of downgrading....
i mentioned before and didnt catch any replies... but if you have the chase southwest preferred card and want to downgrade to a no annual fee version-- are you generally free to go to any other chase cards, or?

Chase's travel category is ridiculously broad. That said, I was surprised that GoGo inflight wifi was not classified as travel

I don't think there is a no AF SW card. And you can't change from co-branded cards to chase cards.

fair enough -- there used to be but they must have phased it out. i expected that answer, but figured it was worth a shot.

Got my CSR today. So, I should pair it with a Freedom or Freedom Unlimited and not a CSP? Is that because there are fees for both of them, and why have 2 fees? If I get CSP would I be able to get the sign up points, even if I just got the CSR, and would that make sense to get that card for the sign up bonus, keep it a year and downgrade to a no AF fee card?
It was mentioned in another response to me to pair the CSR with an Ink card, but I'm not a business owner, does that matter, is that a better move?

CSR and CSP are 2 different products so you are eligible for sign up bonuses on both. But really no reason to have the CSP if you have the CSR.
I think CSR is best paired with the Ink+. No you do not need to be a business owner to get this card. I am not and several other people that have the card are the same. Have you ever sold or thought of selling something online? You could be an online retailer. Use your SSN in place of EIN.
App Link to offer
If you don't feel comfortable going for the ink, you could just go for the CSP now for the sign up bonus and downgrade later to Freedom Unlimited/Regular Freedom.
Ink will give you amazing long term earning potential with a nice sign up bonus. CSP will give you a nice sign up bonus and a decent earning potential long term.

You can downgrade after year 1 to the no annual fee, same reward point Ink Cash which can transfer points to Chase Sapphire Reserve UR portal too

If you are well under 5/24, opening CSR, INK and CSP will accumulate a ton in rewards points. Downgrading the CSP to the Freedom after year 1 to refund annual fee + get 5x category bonus is legit as well
