Here is my dilemma: Just got the CSR, made an amazon purchase to be sure it was working, since I didn't have to call in or go to a web page to activate.
I have 150K Barclays points and am about to book a vacation. I need to get the 4K spend on the CSR, so I was thinking about booking vacation with CSR and just sitting on Barclays points for a bit longer, and downgrading to their free card. Then, pick a quick trip for a long weekend and use those points to cover and basically be done with that card.
So, if I book the vacation with CSR, I have the Delta Amex Platinum and have a companion certificate each year that I can use for my trip, so should I book the vacation with the CSR and use my Delta card for my delta purchase, I get the bag fees waived as well, or use the CSR for all since it's 3X the points and use my companion cert on a different trip? I also have 180K Delta miles to pay for the 2nd ticket, so this would be basicall a $50 flight for 2. The flight would cost me 40K miles.

Isn't the companion ticket for revenue tickets only? I thought that was the case. And in that case i'd pay for the revenue ticket or any other costs with the Barclaycard and cover with Arrival miles.
Unless you don't think that you will be able to meet the minimum spend on your CSR, this is the perfect time to use your arrival miles.
Remember - at the end of the day - cash is king. Try and pay cash last.

It lets me select the trip using the companion ticket and miles, but I didn't actually purchase, so it might barf on me if I tried to submit.

You have to spend a metric frickton on gas to make that marginal increase in rewards a huge amount.
Why does it need to be huge? It is free money. For me, it is easily $30/year. That is a free month of internet, TV, or whatever I want and it takes zero effort or change in habits.

Everybody is different, but for me that isn't worth a hard pull or another card that goes on my 5/24 record.

Are restaurant gift cards considered a restaurant purchase with the CSR?
Posted on 9/15/16 at 3:40 pm to kywildcatfanone
Depends on where you buy them from. If you buy them at ebay/gc website - no. If you buy them at the restaurant - most likely yes.

Was thinking about at a grocery store like Kroger who sells restaurant gift cards.
Posted on 9/15/16 at 3:47 pm to kywildcatfanone
No - that'll count as a grocery store purchase.

What about SW GCs from eBay?
Posted on 9/15/16 at 3:49 pm to LSUtoOmaha
That'll count as an online retail store purchase. How is this so difficult?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm a noob at this.
So, since I got my CSR yesterday, I've made $2600 in purchases including a travel item. I'm seeing the charges in my online account, but my UR points is still 0.
Barclays gives you the points as your earn them, does chase just do that upon monthly payment?

Yes, it's after the monthly statement. If you go to your Rewards Home page it has a section that says "Earnings on Next Statement" so you've earned before it posts.

Anybody have any idea as to when we will be able to upgrade these plastic CSRs to the metal ones? Or will they just send them out whenever they are available? My wife has already complained that she doesn't want to use it over the CSP because the CSP feels fancier

I won't mention how vain this sounds.
I got the plastic one too, but in the paperwork I got with it, it said the metal or whatever one would be shipped when available.

Alright AmeriKop45, one more, for now.
Anything I should know about the other benefits, such as airport lounge access (just activate it on my account?) and global entry/tsa pre?
I have no current expectations to travel abroad, at least not till I retire, so should I just select TSA Pre or should I go ahead and do global entry, because TSA Pre is included with it?
One more. I didn't get a card for my wife, since it was $75, but I'm now thinking I should. I book all of our travel, but she does restaurants a lot, should I go ahead and request one for her or have her do a separate account completely?

Do we know when Chase is going to dial back the signup bonus on the Reserve?

I haven't read any thing but I think it has to last at least 6 months to a year tops from the launch date.
Here's hoping because I'd like to cash in early next year.
