I read the SPG 35k offer was being pulled midday today. You may want to move that app up
I applied yesterday and was sent my approval email about an hour ago. Am I still in line to get that offer if I complete the $3k spend in 3 months?

I see. If the price difference is too much, I will say - lowest tier status may not be as worth it, if at all, as you think. In fact, unless you have top tier status with airlines, the marginal benefits don't justify the marginal costs. But if you think it works for you - go for it. But you won't earn miles (elite or redeemable) if you use points to travel. So use google flights to build your multi city itinerary.
Consider AA's status challenge as well. 12.5K flown miles on oneworld gives you mid tier (platinum). But then again, I've always thought - if you don't fly as much to earn that status through flying, it is hard to justify the cost to do a challenge. (Unless you have a lot of future travel coming up and have had little in the past).

Absolutely.

Yeah, I've wondered the value of getting a low tier. I would probably just have continue to buy flights this year, then buy next year with the silver status, then build up a bunch of miles to use after that.

Which website? Could you link me to it please? Also, how much are "regular" class tickets in Italy and is it advisable to buy them at the station? Also, are regular class conditions pretty bad?
This is the one I used to get the tickets

but this one is also good

and this one shows you different train lines

I think it was only $10 more each to go Premium vs Econ. Then you can also go Biz class which I was going for but the Saver price was gone already and then Executive was another $60. At minimum you should do Premium as you get more room for your bags and other perks. The Biz also has a "Quiet Car" which I dig.
ETA:
Well if you go by the website, Super Econ price which I got was $58 Euro for 2 people. The Basic price which I'm sure you pay if you wait till you get there is $108 Euro. SO yeah, I'd say it's worth buying ahead
And definitely get Premium at minimum. Everything I've read says the same.

Boom. Done. Instant approval. Will apply for AmEx PRG tonight.
Well shite, don't you know my morning is now?! I would've happily sent you a SPG Biz referral link.
ETA:
Actually never mind, just went to check and it said not eligible at this time. Maybe because I didn't get the card in yet?

Applied over phone for the FU first. Rep said "10 days". Checked on phone line and it said 7-10 days.
Said F it and went forward with Ink online. On the phone line, it says my first app is 2 weeks and my second is 7-10 days. i assume it put the ink first for whatever reason.
The ink was on a personal SSN versus a company EIN, so i'm not surprised it went pending. Will keep you guys posted on what goes down.
Just got an email saying ink plus was approved with a ridiculous credit line.
These banks don't make any sense.

Anybody dropped an SPG Amex biz referral link in here?
Posted on 3/30/16 at 3:11 pm to LSUAfro
I don't have one.
Kop - if you need a Gold PRG referral, let me know. Although it's only for 25k/$2k and you'll probably be able to find the 50k/$1k without too much trouble.

I'm still waiting on my United application. Just patiently humming away here. Applied 2 weeks ago.
Though, I do need them to mail this thing to me soon as I'm moving.

SO in the same boat. Applied 3/5. Got SPG within the week. Still no Chase cards. Was hoping to do $1,500 on the Freedom before Q ended. Unlikely now.

Have you ever figured out how much you "made" per year by playing the credit card game?
Posted on 3/30/16 at 3:56 pm to LSUtoOmaha
Enough to make it worth it
I do some cash back, but mostly airline miles/hotel points. That is why it is subjective. This means I pay very (very) little, if at all for travel and do it frequently. 1/3 times I will travel in Business or First. 2/5 times I stay at 4-5* properties. I would definitely not be able to do that if I was paying cash.
I like to travel, so if I could calculate the opportunity cost of my redemptions and come up with a number but that would discount the "luxury" factor. For someone who does not want to travel, it is not as lucrative unless you are willing to do very very high volume.
I actually do travel a good bit for work too. Which translates into a good amount of cash as well because I do have the Citi Prestige (while maximizing the 3x category). I also stay up to date on all the promos being offered by chain hotels so I can do them while I am on work travel, maximize my points and redeem on vacation. In fact, this is a big source for my hotel points balance since I tend to go for airline cards more than hotels.
The "game" is pretty lucrative to say the least.

I think the only real value of UA silver that you can't get from the credit card is the additional 2x earning on miles. Don't count on any upgrades, etc.

OK, there's a lot of pages here, so sorry if I ask something that's already been covered. I'm looking to replace a few of my cards. Currently, I have 3 cards all with a $0 balance:
- Chase Freedom - $10,500 limit, 12.24% APR, no annual fee
- Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards - $14,200 limit, 13.49% APR, $69 annual fee
- Capital One Visa Platinum - $7,000 limit, 17.90% APR
I'd like to consolidate 3 cards down to 2 and I'm completely open to the idea of getting 2 brand new accounts to replace these 3. The Southwest is the one I use most. The Capital One Card has 1 recurring payment on it annually that is paid off immediately. I honestly cannot tell you the last time I've used my Chase Freedom card and am a bit surprised the account is still open.
I got the Southwest card to get the rapid rewards points. But, I just don't think I use it enough to get the points I would need to justify keeping it and paying an annual fee. I don't travel often enough for work and most of my personal travel is done by car. I DO use that card for large purchases to put points on there when I can, but I typically stay away from purchasing things with credit cards.
HOWEVER, I'm moving more towards using a credit card for all online purchases that way my debit card number isn't out on any 3rd party sites any longer. We make a LOT of purchases from Amazon.com over the year, and I'm wondering if that would be a good card to look into. Also I get offers in the mail several times a week from AMEX for a charge card as well as their Blue Cash card.
And of course Capital One keeps trying to get me to "upgrade" to a Venture or Quicksilver card....but I would only do that if I could get a serious rate cut from them.
In summary, I'd like 1 card for regular purchasing that will give me good rewards (I seem to be suited better for cash back) and then a 2nd card for "just in case" scenarios as well. We also have a Chase Disney Visa that we're going to keep because we book our Disney trips with that card and use it for discounts when possible. So I would end with with 3 cards to my name instead of 4.

I haven't paid for a flight in two years and fly business class or first class on nearly every flight. We took 5 trips last year including Italy and have another 4 on the docket for this year. I think we're getting an ok return.

Do you travel? I'd get a Chase Sapphire Preferred so you can transfer the Freedom points to the Sapphire account and then do straight up transfers for airline miles into you frequent flier account.
Posted on 3/30/16 at 5:14 pm to GeauxColonels
Keep: Freedom. In Q4 they have 5% cash back (upto $1,500) on Amazon.com and some other online stores. Buy $1,500 worth of Amazon GCs then and use them throughout the year to maximize. You are basically prepaying into your account. Just pay $1,500 and the credit appears on your amazon account. Done.
Close: CapOne, Southwest card and Disney Card. These are doing you no good.
Open: Blue Cash Preferred
$250 to start off and 6x on groceries, 2x on gas and dining. You can buy Disney Gift Cards at Grocery Stores to get the 6x. But this is capped at $6,000 a year. Sure beats the Disney card at 2% and 1% and adds flexibility to spend anywhere.
You end up with 2 cards in your name, only 1 new, and have maximized your rewards by a lot.

Every Day should be 2x on grocery. BlueCash is 6x.
Additionally, if you have fuel rewards, most grocery stores offer 2x or 4x gift card purchases. That effectively makes any gift card purchase 10%

BlueCash doesn't have any airline travel rewards. Their redemption is pretty garbage in that regard.
Bugs me you don't get bonus for redeeming through partners
