I didn't know this was an option. I have both a Southwest and Freedom card with Chase so I will call have have them move the CL to the Freedom card since I no longer use the Southwest card. If I cancel the Southwest card will I keep the points that I haven't used?

Probably not. But better to close them while they are young if you aren't using them.

I've only recently stopped using SW card, so I guess I should just take the hit to my credit score now and stop paying the $99 annual fee.

It will not hurt your credit score. If you transferred over your CL to Freedom, there is no net effect on the CL accessible to you. Even if you closed it out outright, I'd be surprised if it would affect your score at all. Even if it did, it may hit 5-10 points and will pick back up in a couple of months. Again, that would be surprising to me given your history.

And my monthly budget for groceries is $450 and $150 for gas. I shop at Winn Dixie type places so I'd be able to overcome the $75 annual fee for the amex preferred.

Good. Go for it.

As long as you can see the points in your SW account, they are yours to keep as long as you have Rapid Rewards account open and make sure they don't expire. Idk what the expiration rules are there because I don't really have that problem. But that has nothing to do with Chase.

I haven't used the card in a few months so all my points should be in my Rapid Rewards account. Is there any particular number I should call (like a backdoor number or just the regular customer service) and is there anything in particular I need to say other than I want the CL moved from one card to another?

# on back of the card.

"Hi, I'd like to close my Acct ending in XXXX. I would like to transfer the available credit line on this account over to my chase freedom account ending in YYYY."

I just booked a reward flight from Austin to Asheville. Just burned a ton of Delta points at 1.4 cents per. The flight was expensive AF so I didn't want to pay it.

The plane coming back out of Asheville may be the smallest plane I'll ever be on. I think the whole thing is 14 rows by 2 seats on each side.

I hear you. I'm getting boned on a flight to Wilmington, NC. Only redeeming factor is that will be able to use TYP at 1.6c since its an AA flight. 26.5K points on a domestic flight

Good for you you got some value out of your DL points though

Absolutely.

Are you flying on the little CRJ on the way back? Pretty fun actually. Instead of sleeping on the plane as always you get to see other people freak out when the plane goes nuts through turbulence

Haven't been keeping up, so I don't know how common knowledge it is, but I did just book two tickets MSY-DFW on AA for 13.5k points total in October. 7.5k each minus 10% redemption. Not too bad.

Website only shows promotion through May.

What promo? It is 7.5K each way for <600 mile flights now after deval. MSY-DFW clocks in at 448 miles. 7.5K sounds about right

Ahh 2 tickets! My bad I thought you meant RT. Nice redemption

Q: I see new orleans is available for May. Dallas is not available. So when they say reduced mileage awards for destinations, and you are originating and ending in MSY, are you qualified for the full (RT) reduction?

I flew on one of these from SHV>ATL and back every week for a couple of years. They do bounce around a lot, but if you talk to a pilot they are like sports cars compared to the bigger jets..

Seats 1A or D or row 8 are the only somewhat comfortable seats on the whole plane.

All booked up.

At least I'm not in the back near the shitter.

But I suppose we're all near the shitter.

How do y'all minimize the credit score hit? I went from 800 to 730 over a year after getting 5 new cards.

I have a question for those a little more savvy than I with international travel.

My Dad is working internationally right now (Saudi Arabia). Not surprisingly, he's been dealing with some identify theft issues, and after a little prodding I found he's been using this debit card for some personal purchases.

What are some of the better cards he can use out there. My quick research tells me CSP, since it has no foreign transaction fees and such.

Any recommendations?

For the life of me I don't know why people use debit cards if they qualify for credit cards.

Any credit card with no foreign transaction fee would be fine if he's just trying to help deter fraudulent charges and get protection from a card. If he needs chip+pin, tell him to get a Barclays credit card like the arrival or arrival plus. If he wants rewards/points, he needs to get whatever maximizes his points based on what he's spending his dollars on.
