If ForEx fee is a concern, hard to beat the CSP.
I am guessing he will only be going for 1 card, so it doesn't matter which card he goes for. There are some other options out there apart from CSP. Depending on where most of his expenses are consider the following no forex options:
1) CSP - Restaurants and Travel
2) Ink - 5x on office supplies and 2x on gas and hotels
3) AmEx Premier Rewards Gold - 3x on AIrfare, 2x on Gas, Groceries, Restaurants
4) Citi Premier (40K) - 3x gas and travel, 2x restaurants
5) Citi Prestige - 3x travel, 2x dining, great lounge access including AA admirals club, free gold benefit and 4th night free benefit at hotels
SPG has no ForEx either, and has the highest bonus ever until tomorrow. But I would suggest against it because it is not the best "lone" card to have (imo). This is because the only bonus it earns is at SPG hotels.
I did not link you to the AmEx gold because the link would lead you to a 25K offer. and there is at least a 50K one out there. Follow the instructions in one of my responses about how to find the best AmEx offer.
I have all of the above cards (except AmEx gold) and I think I love Citi Prestige the most as it yields the most amount of return for me + lounge access is near unbeatable.
I use CSP the most.
Ink is wonderful if you can maximize the 5x categories but more of a pain otherwise.

The highest offers floating around on these is $250 Bonus after spending $1K in 3 months. Make sure you apply with that. Try to google "amex blue cash" in an incognito window after clearing your cookies and browser history. If you don't see the offer. Just say something here and I can give you a couple more things to try.
I saw the offer today at work, but when I went to apply tonight, it was down to $150. And incognito didn't work

Also, don't forget, with Prestige comes the opportunity to redeem TYP @ 1.6c per point for AA flights.
Yeah, I do like that but $200 is hard to break even without me using the free night. I'm going to drop this card likely even though I want to keep it. I'll get it again in a couple years or something, especially when I can get all the bonuses again and I need Global Entry again

Red Aviator - Get rid unless fee waived and you don't have another 10% rebate on AA miles card.
Citi AA - Get rid
Just got both AF's waived on these cards in the last couple months so I'll see how it goes next year. I do like the 10% back and having priority boarding and free bag. BUT as mentioned, if I switch to AS I may dump both unless free AF again next year.
quote:
SPG Biz - Get rid unless you use Sheraton Club enough to justify fee.
Nope. I'll be happy with the 40k+ SPG I get from this bonus and drop it unless they waive or heavily discount the AF next year.

Ink+ -
quote:
United - Get rid
SW Prem - Get rid. Maybe use points for LAX-MSY flights. Those are cheap. Plus you can get to LAX on a much cheaper flight from HNL.
Def dropping both unless UA waives AF.
quote:
Alaska - Get rid. Imo, should be your primary carrier.
Will drop before next AF, but will get another bonus or two before doing that. Def considering making them primary over shitty AA. AA is starting to chart into UA territory and I fricking hate UA
quote:
IHG - Keep forever
Yup!
So basically you agreed with what I said earlier.

The only thing I would suggest on your cc portfolio is getting a sapphire preferred and downgrading your ink plus to a no fee ink cash. Same net annual fee and you'll pick up 2x on restaurants and airfare.
Yeah, but I get 5x on office supply, phone, cable, internet. I just bought $1000 Shell gas at office Depot so there's 5x instead of 2x at the pump
For restaurants I do wish Ink+ did the 2x as I easily spend a few thousand a year on them.

Or better yet, you could apply for an ink cash to get the sign up bonus and close your ink plus. Between the CSP and the ink cash you could bag 75k ur points. You wouldn't really need the United card either then.
I would but Ameri makes the point for me

Lastly, aviator has been very good about waiving the annual fee. I got mine waived and they even offered 15k bonus points for spending $500/mo for 3 months to keep it open. I also like Barclays' chip+pin feature for when traveling abroad and buying rail/subway tickets from kiosks.
Yeah, they waived it and gave me 5,000 miles. I'll try again next Dec and will keep going if they waive. I'll be in Europe in June and taking trains so I may use that feature although I already pre bought a couple train tickets. Buying first class early gets great prices. $60 for 2 people from ROM to Florence and then $60 again from FLO to VEN.

What do you guys use Amex mr points for? Any of their non-star alliance partners generally easy to redeem with? I'm trying to figure out if it is worth accumulating some points there. If I move my airfare spend over to my Amex prg, I can accumulate about 100k-120k MR in a year. That's the only card I have right now with 3x on airfare. I just am not very familiar with their air partners' redemption policies / availability.

Agree on buying train tickets in advance for Europe for sure. I used the arrival in Europe recently for subway and commuter rail tickets mostly. The kiosks had an English button. The booth attendants did not.

Hey guys maybe yall can help me out. I have a bachelor party to go to in Cabo San Lucas on Memorial Day weekend in May. Most of the flights where I live (closest big airport is LAX) have layovers in Mexico City. I'm off te week before the party so I was thinking about spending a few days in Mexico City before. Is there a way to make a long layover there while just paying the regular price for a ticket? Or is there a better way to cheaply do this?
Thanks
Thanks

SkyTeam: AirFrance and Delta. I've heard things about having to go to AirFrance desk at an airport sometimes while redeeming points because they freeze your points or something. Does give you the opportunity for 25K RT to Europe etc during their Promo awards (change every month). Delta comes with that $0.007 per point surcharge on transfer but caps out at $90 I think.
Non-alliance: Hawaiin
Why against Star though? ANA and Singapore redemptions are pretty competitive.

Which website? Could you link me to it please? Also, how much are "regular" class tickets in Italy and is it advisable to buy them at the station? Also, are regular class conditions pretty bad?

Play around with some dates on Google flights using the multi-city search tool. Sounds like you are a little flexible with your dates so see if you can come up with something suitable. I would say better/cheapest way to do this is airline/credit card points and using program stopover rules to build in a free stopover. But you need to decide if that is something you want to do. May is coming up. Signing up, hitting spend requirements, having the bonus post and then looking for a redemption might be cutting it too close. But if you want to give it a shot I could give you some options. Hint: Look at some of my other suggestions from yesterday

Not against star, just have more united miles than I can burn through so I normally redeem star awards through UA. Singapore is interesting for redeeming their own premium cabins. Just don't know when I would actually take a trip on them anytime soon.

I read the SPG 35k offer was being pulled midday today. You may want to move that app up

Oh really? Hmm. Ok then. Thanks for the info.
I will apply through a reddit referral unless someone posts in the next 20 mins

What are my chances of getting the Hyatt card?
Since 2/15 I have received SW x2, SPG, Hilton x2.

I would say better now than later. Only because the rumor is 5/24 rule will kick in for co-branded cards in April. If you are going for Hyatt, might as well go for IHG too on the same day bec Chase will merge apps into 1.

I'm trying to buy with United or a star alliance to get the silver status on the FF program this year.
