I currently have the southwest rapid rewards card but I'm thinking of getting the capital one venture card to be able to use points for other airlines. Are there better options than the Venture without a large annual fee (>$100)? I put about $1500-2000 per month on my SW card.
The Capital One Venture is for suckers. It doesn't earn real transferable miles, it earns "Capital One Miles." The way to really use credit card points for travel is to transfer the points to (specific) airline miles, not book through the credit card travel site.
Get a Chase Sapphire Preferred. Or a Thank You Premier. Or a Preferred Rewards Gold Amex ($195/year, but you get $100 statement credit for airline spending).
Why You Shouldn't Get a Capital One Venture

I'm stuck between deciding on a thankyou premier card or a chase sapphire preferred card
I know the chase is generally better, but I currently have 79,000 thank you points from my Forward card which are not transferable like regular thankyou points. If I get the Premier card I can combine the TY points and make them all transferable as well as improve other redemption options.
I'm thinking that gives the nod to the TYP card

How many applications have you had the last 2 years? Since Chase won't let you get their UR cards if you have more than 5 in the last 2 years, I usually recommend to friends to get the CSP first, since Citi is going to let you have that Citi Premier without issue.
If you play the game even moderately aggressive, you'll never get back in to Chase cards. However, I don't see how they'll be able to keep that rule for very long IMO. 5 in two years is pretty small.
I'll also mention my plan is to rack up with the Premier which I have now, then get Prestige at a strategic time so I can leverage Thank You points at 1.6 cents on American instead of only at 1.25. Currently, that's a planned trip to Cuba using American from MSY to MIA to Caymans then Cayman Air to Havana.

Still good for the signup bonus if you don't mind the 3 credit bureau hit.
But yes, the Citi Double Cash is way better than the Venture for every day spend since they are both effectively 2% cash back cards yet DC doesn't have an annual fee. If I was flying domestically only and sparingly, I'd just get that and be done with it. Sometimes you got to keep it simple.
If you fly a lot domestically, then things get more interesting.

Just a heads up in case anyone is interested. Discover is running a promotion on their cards with Apple pay where you can get 10% back or 10 miles per dollar spent (It miles card) from now through the end of the year (up to $10,000) LINK.
Pretty good deal especially if you have some big purchases like electronics. Also, Discover is doubling your cashback or miles for the first year if you got a card recently. I don't know how that will work together, but there is some potential for some good rewards there.

I have less than 5
I don't cycle many cards. Really just getting into the points game. I've always gone after cash back cards

This is throwing off my CC game
Think I'm going to get the Citi card and get the 6S when it comes out to take advantage of this.

Then hopping on the Discouver IT card. They'll be happy. They send me literally at least 50 mailers a year.

My wife has the iphone, I have a Samsung through work. Situation reversed I'd already be on this.

Looks like the 100k British Airways offer is back out there if anyone hasn't gotten it yet that needs it.

Interesting.
That's enough for a Club World ticket to Europe - give or take. Although, we the redemption fees you're still paying 1,000 USD.

You can also use it on partner domestic trips, like American in the US, LAN in Peru, I think Dragonair in SE Asia, etc.

Yeah it's a tempting idea. I'd probably go for the 75k and if I had a lull time in between apps I'd try to hit that last $10k over the year. It would be equivalent to paying $100 for 35,000 avios for the last 25k bonus if I was to MS buying OV GCs. Not bad.

Ya I'm still having trouble burning them as it is. Even on multi leg trips.
I guess we need to start visiting her family in DC more to get rid of them

Need an American hub to make the Avios work. I've used about 150k in the last year and still have a pile.

This is it. It's pretty much crap from MSY.
I'd use them on Iberia again. It would get two 1-way tickets to most of Europe in business for roughly $400 all in with fuel charges, annual fee, and MS cost for both tickets.
I'd call that a worthwhile application.

Agreed. I don't mind the surcharge for business or first class on some carriers. On an American Airlines 767 first or business class is a joke compared to British Air and others.
