If you're flying to London you should do Glbal Entry. It also covers TSA pre check.

So get global entry and when I travel domestic, I will also have TSA Pre?

Thanks, I never travel international. I've been to Mexico, but that is it. This would be my first truly international trip. I would utilize the hell out of TSA Pre though, so just wanted to make sure I'd have both.

It's nice but Global Entry is the bomb. Just be sure to add the TSA precheck number to your reservations and FF accounts or you don't get to use it.

Ya, I read also some times it takes a few flights for precheck to kick in all the time after getting GE.

My experience so far after getting GE in June.

1st flight: Solo travel and had precheck. Sweet.
2nd flights: travel with my wife who is waiting on her GE interview. No precheck.
3rd flight: same deal coming up labor day so we'll see.

I'm curious if my wife's status is affecting me or if it's going to take a few flights for me to always have it.

Got a question for you frequent flyers. I am booking award travel to Rome with American Airlines. We have enough miles for business class mile saver but they only are allowing one ticket to be used. Could I book an award ticket for my wife in coach on the same flight and just pay to upgrade her to first class?

I've never had to do that but keep this in mind:

My quick search says no unless offered at check in/gate.

Thanks. I guess I will just let her sit in my seat on the return trip or something.

good luck with that.

I'd keep checking to see if a spot opens up and upgrade her seat if it does.

I don't know an airline that allows you to upgrade award tickets.

If this was BA, I'd suggest booking something in Premium Economy and then use your miles to upgrade it to Business.

Perhaps AA has something like that.

Boom. $95 credit

At first you have to add the frequent flyer number to your reservations. You can now also add them to your airline accounts. Until you have a few flights under your belt I would do both each time you book.

It's all added every where.

I'll just wait and see I suppose.

Global entry is nice but basically no use if you are traveling overseas with companions who don't have it... Just something to consider.

If they aren't my wife or children they can meet me an hour later at the lounge bar. shite, they can't get in there either!

My wife is getting hers. Anyone else who doesn't get it is on their own.

I'm shocked any traveler wouldn't get this. Even if you go out of country once a year or none, the built in TSA is so worth it. Throw in the fact GE takes $100 if you even have to pay for it, 5 to 10 minutes online, 5 minute interview and however long to drive to the interview, the barrier is so low.

With the new automatic passport control GOES will be somewhat less useful.

Does anyone use creditmatch on credit cards.com to see if they qualify for better offers?

Took me ~30min to get through regular security/customs at jfk a couple weeks back (I have GE but my gf doesn't).

Do your kids have it? You gonna make them go through regular while you speed through?
