I started a position yesterday and added a little more this morning. Not just for the dead cat bounce but for a long term play. I think most of the pain should be played out but wanted some of the guru's thoughts.

My philosophy is that if Google can't survive, the only investments we need to worry about are bullets and canned food.

My thoughts exactly, why I bought. Also hoping the Ai refocus is going to play out positively long term as well.

No. Hold your own bags.

If you strictly want to play bounces start a position in SVIX today.

After the election the volatility will come out of the market and SVIX will slowly move back up.

1. It doesn't have to go to zero to be a bad investment.
2. The Stock Cemetery is full of indispensable companies.

It used to be unthinkable that GM could go out of business.
But yet there we were in 2009 with them needing/getting a government bailout.

Mostly a long term investor, tax reasons.

If GOOGL becomes a "bad" (not slightly suboptimal) investment anytime soon, then the US economy is fricked.

goog is -0.3% over the last year. They certainly haven't see the AI/Tech bump. pretty concerning IMO

The economy isn’t the stock market. They are different. Nasdaq crashed 80% from its peak in 2000. Life still went on. There wasn’t double digit unemployment or Great Depression type of challenges.

It’ll likely crash again at some point too. And things will be fine for most people (not on this board tho, they’ll be lot of angry suicidal bagholders here regretting they gambled away their money at the peak of a bubble). But regular Americans will carry on.

The post 2009 investing community is used to getting their bad investments bailed out with QE.
They've never experienced a time like 2000 when things went into free fall and you were on your own.
People have become complacent thinking that big daddy fed/government will always be there to rescue them.

True. Way too much leverage and margin in the market now compared to then. Washing out the degenerate gamblers may be a positive.

2010-2025 was a perfect storm of QE, zero real interest rates, big growth tech that was asset light with high margins. The end result is massive inflation, a frozen real estate market, and the last hope for many “at least my 401K looks good”.

That is including the 14% drop since 10/15, that is what I am buying. It was 401 in May and it is 281, I am hoping as I stated most of the pain is over and their refocus into AI will pay off long term.

My average is right around 180. If it hits 250 will load up more.

If they get left in the competitive dust it just means other companies are offering better goods and services at the right price. No harm to the economy in general.

Point being it took 1 day to wipe out a full year of returns meaning they haven’t benefited as much as others from the AI boom. So if they will continue to get less benefit going forward where is the growth coming from? AI is eating their search revenue. That will only get worse. But I’m not invested. Just sharing my opinion

They’re diluting their stock fairly aggressively. Google the enterprise is benefiting from the investment. The shareholder in the intermediate term? meh.

Go look at the chart, that is not even close to what happened, it topped in May and has been on a big decline and is even for the year.

From AI, the reason they dropped yesterday is because of a big AI spend announced moving forward.

Will they not be there for rescue again though? Not that it was good then or ever has been good long term, but do you truly think they'd let things fall and risk deflation?

Is it not fair to assume that they will do whatever is in their power to save the system - even if it erodes real wealth from the bottom 99% over time?
