How many of you have employees? How many do you have working for you? How many of you are what the kids call, "solopreneurs," like myself?

For those of you who have a group of employees, did you always know you'd need to hire folks? Did you reach a point by yourself that you realized you needed to hire someone to answer a phone? Or hiring the 2nd guy to run a crew or assist you on jobs? Do you mind sharing about the point where you decided that there was a genuine need to hire another person-or persons-and what letting go of doing everything on your own was like?

I'm a one-man-band. My short and medium term plan is not to change that. But I have an idea that I could potentially expand or scale...and that would obviously require hiring folks. With that in mind I'd enjoy hearing other's stories about reaching that point themselves. Whether it was always in the works or it just sort've happened.

I won't post specifics but I have a handful of full time direct employees, and a lot of 1099 positions.

Yes but I was really bad about it as I had a hard time delegating but now I can't imagine how I ever did without it. You won't grow trying to do it all yourself and will burnout eventually.

That's going to be different for everyone. My latest venture I rolled the dice and hired an assistant the day I started it but years ago I was working 24/7 being stubborn again because of not being able to let go of control. I learned the right person pays for themselves if you train them correctly and give them the guidance they need.

Hiring more people is tough. Right now I use temps specific to my industry. I pay a little bit of a premium when I need them but nothing when I don’t. Right now I need them a lot and I need a lot of them. I guess it’s a good problem to have.

Someone once asked the Pope, "How many people work at the Vatican?". He replied, "About half of them."

We have 35 employees at our shop. We're a manufacturing company that manufactures architectural signage. We get to a point where one person can't do anymore and we will look at hiring someone else for that role. For instance, we have 3 project managers and we started noticing that our projects going through this team were taking about a week or 2 longer than they should, so we hired someone to reduce that lead time through PM.

We're around 175ish right now give or take. We will probably need to ramp up to about 220-230 at the end of Q2 beginning of Q3, I could spend hours talking about this topic.
