First, sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot.

Anyone have good or bad experiences with Banner Chevrolet in New Orleans East? Purchased a vehicle from them Saturday b.c. the price was right, but everything else was odd.

Sales manager didn't move 1 penny off the Internet price. I asked for $300 off so I can add a hitch. He said no. Asked for better tires on the back as they showed serious wear. He said no.

Now, the vehicle was priced right, and I never disputed that, which is the ONLY reason I purchased it, but he wouldn't work with me at all. The back tires will only last a year, and he was telling me they still have half-a life left.

Then they don't state-inspect the vehicle. They do their OWN inspection, but no state-inspection. That's really odd and cheap? Right?

It took a while for it to sink in, but I finally came to the conclusion that this was a transaction and a transaction only. They are not really interested in taking care of the customer or return biz. It's like McDonalds; Either you want the big mac or not. They set the price really low...and that's it.

It was just a weird experience. Every place I've purchased a vehicle they work with you and are so grateful that you would spend thousands of $$$ with them. This place wanted me off the lot as fast as they can so they could move on to the next transaction.

Internet has changed the game in terms of wiggle room b.c. the vehicles have to be priced right to be competitive, but damn, just put the truck on a shelf in Wal-Mart if it's just going to be a transaction moving forward.

Any thoughts?

Our friend bought a new Traverse from them about 3 months ago. She said it was an OK experience. Got a better deal there than any other the other local Chevy dealerships.

She did tell me about one odd thing. They went back and forth over a few days before they got the deal done. At some point, they were talking about financing and the salesman mentioned Keesler Federal CU. So at some point they went and talked to them and got approved for like a 2.79% rate. They go back at some point to Banner to finish the deal, never mention they talked to Keesler.

Eventually they get to the finance office, and one of the offers they presented was from Keesler, for 4.49%. They laughed, showed them the approval letter they had with the lower rate, and went with that.

I'm sure this happens at all dealerships though.

This seems to be more and more common especially on new vehicles. We have started shopping, and I have had two different salesmen - at two different dealerships - tell me that the internet price is the "absolute lowest" they will go on a used car. I did note that in every instance, the internet price was lower than the one on the sticker. I would imagine the longer the car sits on the lot, they may change their tune. Although, they did seem to be amenable to throwing certain things into the pot, but they would not even think about lowering the price.

Honestly, it appears that he got what he wanted (a sale for asking price) and you got what you wanted (a used truck at a great price.)

If he had tons of room in the deal to give you $300 and new tires then the sales price wouldn’t have been so good. You can add a hitch for way less than $300 anyway.

Didn't have to.

You bought anyway.

He worked with you, sounds like you didn't ask hard enough, or get up and walk.

so you're mad about all these "issues" you had but bought the car anyway?

sounds like the sales manager won here. you didn't have to buy the car, you know.

Couldn't really walk. Like I said, the vehicle was priced nice and there was someone else on the lot to purchase the car if I did not.

Like the post says, issue is not really the price. Issue is that car buying is no longer an experience. It's a transaction.

They're not trying to earn your return biz or establish a relationship or even a referral. They are after the quick sale and on to the next one.

Just pointing out that its different.

Good. I don't want an experience. List the lowest price possible and I'll either accept it or not. No point in having to jump through hoops to see how cheap I can buy something.

I would love this. I don't want to haggle, but you have to or they just get more and more profit.

You should have got up and REAIIY walked away if he didn't want to work with you. He said I'm Alpha, you conceded you were Beta. Don't come here looking for feels good. You know you were taken advantage of.

Yes, you are suffering from "buyer's remorse."

The definition of a good deal is when, in this case, you and the seller both walk away from the deal thinking you both got screwed.

Based on what you wrote, it sounds as if you didn't get a good deal.

The buyer and many don't realize this, always hold the leverage. You have the ability to say no or walk away.

In hindsight, you may have made an impulsive decision, even though you may have researched it.

But since this is done, focus more on the vehicle now that it is in your possession and find a dealer or repair shop for any service related issues --- and bypass Banner from here on out.

Banner purchased the Ford dealership here in Monroe a few months back. I went to the lot when they were transitioning and walked around for half an hour. Not a single person came buy and asked me if I had any questions etc. I left and haven't been back.

I kept waiting for "got up and walked", but it never came. This option seems like it never occurs to anyone. Car dealerships are like irrational women: they think they have you by the ying-yang. You just have to turn your back and walk away and they'll chase after you. Next time you buy a car, go with options.

"Experiences" for me is traveling, spending time with friends and family, etc.

I HATE buying cars. One of the reasons I will drive a car until it dies is to avoid having to buy a car and deal with all of the BS. Just set a fair price and let's move on.

I know some people love the thrill of the hunt, etc. not me.

Cars last a lot longer these days. A new car can easily last 12 years if you take care of it. That means the average person is buying a car ever 12 years, or maybe 6 cars over their life. If you are married / have kids, maybe you are involved in 15 or so purchases over 60 years. At most.

Odds are, the next time you need to buy a car, that salesman won't be around anyways.

Communicated via email with salesperson. He gave me an out the door price of “as low as” xxxxx. I asked him to break down the charges, price of vehicle, TTL charges, any other fees itemized. I asked him what “as low as” means. He stated that his management would not let him provide that info and I needed to go to the dealership.
Is this normal?

My management (myself) would not allow me to drive to his dealership under those circumstances.

2 other dealerships gave me all the info I asked for. Purchased the vehicle Friday.

Yes, if you leave it alone. I would never go with a total without knowing the breakdown.
