Too bad the automation will phase out the bank teller anyway.

ATM machines can take check deposits and do other transactions ... no real need for them anymore anyway

I bet they hire contractors for all their low wage jobs, so they don’t have to pay them this anyway. Virtue signaling at a corporate level

They can’t do this with anything other than janiorial and groundskeeping. If you set a work schedule for them, you have to give them a W2

That's semantics. The minimum wage at my company is $18... because we don't have any positions worth less than $18/hr.

my company is in the middle of a three year phased removal of the lobby teller area in all branches of a credit union, replacing it with "virtual teller machines" connected to a small teller staff at a remote location

We have a virtual teller machine at my local branch...I haven't had any issues since they got rid of the ~2 folks that used to staff it.

you would lose that bet
the trend is to reduce staff numbers and pay more for the skilled labor that remains in front of the customer.

This includes college interns too. 5 years ago they didn’t have to be paid. They went to $10, then $15 and soon $20 an hour. Not a bad gig for the college kids. Has to sting for the advisors paying then.

No biggie. Businesses can run how they want to run.

So long as the government isn't manipulating labor at the force of a gun, then I am happy.
