I know a lot of people go to Mexico specifically to get stem cell treatments done since they don’t offer that in the US.

On the Medicare front, it’s not really as cheap as y’all think bc we done paid into that for our whole lives. And then you still gotta pay more for supplements when you get to 65.

Think about this regularly. My mom will inherit a 90+ year old house in a small Sicilian mountain village within the next 10 years. It's been maintained and updated within the last 10 years. With no cost for a place to live, we could live in the area relatively cheap. An hour from the beach and an hour from skiing on Mt. Etna. Some American presence with a Naval station relatively close. I dream of being in a remote work position someday and going there 45-90 days every year.

Cuenca Ecuador needs a mention - large expat community that I need to go check out - Ecuador in general is beautiful.

Costa Rica would have been great 20 - 30 years ago. Prices have gone up there to the point I not sure it's worth it with the minuses. I'm taking a lot of camera gear to my friend who lives there, import taxes are outrageous and make buying a decent car really costly. Healthcare is pretty terrible, per my friend.

shite, go remote and go live there for half the year. Geo arbitrage...you're making a killing while paying little for living a good life

I liked Cuenca. Ton of expats there when I visited. I'd still pick Colombia or Peru over Ecuador though.

In the process of buying an ex narco penthouse in Barranquilla. It's been empty for 20 years. Needs a complete renovation. Government has owned it all this time doing nothing with it.

But is my dream property. Huge terrace overlooking the city. Private rooftop pool.

Paid $105,000 and will sink $75,000 - $100,000 into the renovation.

Pictures Here

Peru could be good. I liked it a lot, other than Lima which is a mess. Around Cusco could be nice, though. Somewhere with some elevation. And I could see Colombia too. Manizales is one of the prettiest cities I've seen.

I've yet to find any evidence of Venezuela taking someones personal home/apartment.

Hhhmmm. I have extended family living together in a home in Kenner. Not sure they had their personal home/apartment taken from them, but definitely had their businesses taken.... resulting in the need to abandon the personal home/apartment and flee to the States.

I can introduce you over a nice latin dinner if you'd like. 2 work for gas stations in their 60's and one, who has been here the longest, works for a tax prep company. He was a lawyer.

That doesn't mean that what they're getting is safe, effective, or on par/better than the care here. It likely just means the FDA won't approve it because it's not safe or effective.

When you move to another country and start getting care there, you don't get your previous decades of contributions back. So your point is moot.

Yep, that’s certainly comparable to needing an emergent quadruple bypass to keep your elderly heart limping along for another decade!

That is awesome. You should start a thread on the Travel board and keep updated. Could be a great resource for a lot of people.

This means absolutely nothing. There’s plenty of countries I would trust doctors over our corrupt health care system.

That's going to be a baller place. It's crazy how much farther your money goes in some of these countries.

We're building a house in Mexico right now. 4 beds, 3 baths, 3 pools...$380k. Would probably cost a million here in the US

You better hope that Narco or his family doesn't come and try to take that property back. Will be an absolute nightmare for you.

Share some pics. Would love to see it.

And yes, most people have the money to make their dreams come true if they just hop on a flight and stay somewhere else.

That Colombia is in the past (for now). Narcos are alive and well in Colombia but they have gotten MUCH smarter. They don't do anything to draw attention to theirselfs.

You would meet them if you lived here. Just normal dudes with money and girls.

Cocaine exports are higher than ever but the drama that goes with that has been gone for years.
