Don't do Italy in August. Many businesses shut down for the month.

If he's using miles, Fri Dec 30th- Thurs Jan 5th there's award availability BHM-ANU on American for 17,500 miles each way. There's a one-way award for 17.5k miles Dec 28th but it involves about 12 hours in miami and an overnight at JFK so that's a no-go

I was looking at +3 days. But if he's that flexible, good on him :) Plus, I think he may not have AA miles. So unless he can find directs out of MIA and book with Avios, it would probably be best to go * or sky

A lifetime wouldn't be enough but two days if you don't have to find a place to park a car will hit the highlights.....Firenze is fricking great city>

Do I get paid?

Unfortunately, no way to do that right now

Not even going to be up and running for a few months, leave alone monetizing it. As soon as that happens, or if that happens, I'm thinking of a pay-per-view kinda deal for contributors.
Until then, I am thinking let contributors include their own and post relevant CC referrals.

Its basically going to be a free award travel consulting service + award travel blog. Yes I know, its a 1 in a million idea. (But screw the people who charge $200 per ticket. Award travel is supposed to FREEish). So its not like I am making money while you arent :)

E-mail me, and we will discuss further if you are interested at all

Btw - this goes for anyone and everyone who is going somewhere. Take a bunch of pictures and notes and lets get in touch.

Hitting up London in May, was only 40k point on AA RT and using Spg points. Then probably going to hit up nyc at some point then vail for Christmas. Traveling for work has made getting points much easier and subsequently using them to go places.

Nice (sorry didn't notice your username )

Btw - How does that work exactly? I know they have a room availability guarantee, but do they open up award space for Diamonds too? Have you had first hand experience with this? Whats the success rate?

Just curious. Im a lowly platinum with Hyatt (through card obv.)

Haha, I'm just saying there are plenty of spots for me to stay as a diamond so I'm not too concerned...I don't have much experience with Hyatt. I'm giving them a shot because they recently matched my Hilton diamond. We shall see.

Although, I'm also tempted to go to Chicago that weekend and drive up for the lsu game...don't know if I could spin that though

Some of my friends are doing that. I actually even had my flights and hotel booked. Was going to stay in a $400 super 8 for 3000 WR+$35. No other hotels were available. Also had flights on aa booked from ord for 4.5k Avios.
Later found out that I wouldn't have anymore pto left if I was going to do my other trips haha

This is a fantastic idea. Thanks for starting this up.

With a brand new baby, my recreational travel should be down, but I would be happy to write in the future.

In the last five years I have done long trips to Colorado, Seattle, Vero Beach-Palm Beach,Orlando, 30A, Vancouver, Whistler, Kauai (twice), Maui and London. I like going to the Redneck Riviera as much as the next SEC guy.

I'm headed to Dublin this Summer for a week, and staying at the Shelbourne and also at a castle/hotel in County Clare. In Summer 2017 I'm going to do Barcelona for a week and I'm still deciding where to go from there, Ibiza or whatnot.

I really want to do a two week hike/ryokan trip in Japan. I might do it with my daughter in 2017 after she graduates from High School. I'm not sure if that is in the budget though. That Iceland thread on the OT really piqued my interest too. And I have it in my head I want to go to Argentina. I also want to do a 70's road trip with my kids, up to Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario but that would take three weeks.

Thanks for the great links. More proof we need a travel board.

Maybe head over to the rewards points discussion thread to do trips on a budget.

Kauai. I love that place. Was there in Dec (my first time this last October). I've been to some places. Not too many places as beautiful. Never been to any of the other islands. Maui trip is in the works next year.

Iceland is awesome. And Iceland is cheap. Go to Iceland.

The Sheraton, used points for 1bd suite. As far as cheap lift tickets, vail resorts kind of has a monopoly on that kind of stuff so your best bet is buying a season pass early on as they are cheaper but only worth it if you are skiing 4+ days

Wife and I are looking to do a 14-16 day trip to Australia in October/November, looking for any advice or tips!

Posted about getting there in the awards thread.

There are two main things I want to do (Both in top 3 on bucket list): Cage dive with great whites, and scuba dive the great barrier reef.

Rough itinerary:
-Day 1: Land in Sydney (Or wherever we fly into), get connecting flight straight to Port Lincoln.
-Day 2-4: Port Lincoln (Rodney Fox 3 day trip). Fly to Melbourne the night of day 4.
-Day 5-7: Melbourne. Flight out to Cairns afternoon/evening day 7.
-Day 8-11: Cairns, etc. Fly to Sydney afternoon/evening of day 11.
-Day 11-16: Sydney/surrounding areas.

I'd like to do Uluru/Alice Springs, but I know my wife wouldn't enjoy it and I feel like we are already traveling a lot once we get to the country. I've read that November is "stinger season" in Cairns, but it was a balancing act trying to find a month that we could have a good chance to see great whites, and get some nice scuba diving in.

Any input/suggestions on itinerary? Anything I missed that I should see while we are there? Any suggestions on what to see/do in each place? Right now my rough ideas:
-Phillip Island/Penguins
-Walk across Sydney bridge
-Shark diving trip
-Rugby game?
-Scuba dive great barrier reef
-Rain forest in Cairns

Thanks for the help!
