I've debated taking part in this thread because I enjoy my anonymity on this site.
I've been living in Colombia the last 2 months so if anyone has any questions I would be happy to help. I'm currently in Medellin and love it.

I've lost anonymity a long time ago.
I live in Germany. If anyone has questions about Germany, I'd tell them to read Rick Steve's.

I've got these majors under my belt. Doing Costa Rica this fall/winter with some buddies. Would def. look for recs from folks that have done it. Want to do 7-10 days I think combining beaches, surfing, fishing and lots of hiking, jungle stuff. Partying is certainly a plus too.

AS for Europe, did a couple months between the following

Brussels
Amsterdamn
Vienna
Prague
Interlaken
Florence
Cinque Terre
Terragoza
Pamplona (San Fermin)
Barcelona
Madrid
Lisbon

Don't have much desire to go back to Europe right now. Although I may just say F-it and do a quickie for the Euro 16. Next big one for me will be Thailand/Nam or Australia/Fiji. Thinking 2017 for that one.

I've found YouTube to be a great resource. So many vloggers these days that anything you want to know is out there in a consumable, well-edited format.

Going to be one more soon haha! I will be mainly focusing on award travel though. I think it would be fun (at least for me) because I could talk about that forever.

I saw earlier you were going to Oslo, I was there in August and stayed at the Sentrum Hostel. Pretty nice hostel in great location, very close to train/tram station and near the opera house/ park etc.

There's a really cool smoked meat shop close to there by the main street towards the water. I got to try smoked whale, elk, moose among other things would highly recommend it

Terrific. I will check it out. I think I am staying at a different hostel but it should be close by. Any suggestions on things to do there?

how long? How much budget? Don't do australia for 2 weeks, it will kill you. Ireland is awesome. I would highly recommend it.

2 weeks max. Wife is teacher so has the whole summer off.

2 weeks too much or too little for Australia?

Which part of Ireland? I was thinking about a "driving" tour.

That will get you 2 round trips from Boston to Ireland. If yes, please post in the other, rewards points discussion thread.

I'll check it out, thanks.

Right now airfare is around $895 from Los Angeles (there's even a stopover in Fiji), we can get you to LA from New Orleans for about $200 so total $1100. Cheapest I'm finding to Dublin is about $809 from MSY

I appreciate it, but I'm not in LA as you can see under my username.

I know you're in Raleigh, but the point was that most (95%) of the flights from the US-Australia leave from LA. Only other direct flight options are Dallas or San Fran. Since you're on the east coast Ireland will likely be much cheaper to fly to. In some quick browsing there's roundtrips RDU-Dublin for $730 in early may

This is from a friend that lives in Oslo. He sent me this when I was headed there.

"Okay, so opera house is cool to go check out and walk on and around. Really nice urbanism project.

Then if you keep walking on the left side of the harbor you can go check out this new "urban beach". Basically a dock, but very cooly designed. Can test your body and swim in the freezing fjord haha. I'll send map at end of message. Sørenga sjobad is what it's called

Everyone visiting goes to this park Frogner. It's cool but my favorite park is ekebergparken. On the other side of the city on top of a hill. Has a really awesome view of front of city. Also some interesting art installations and history markers throughout it.

My personal favorite thing to do is just walk down the "akerelva" river. Which you are staying next to. It's a nice walking path and if it's a beautiful day is pretty nice. It goes next to the neighborhood "Grunnerlokka" which is like the hip part of town and has all the different food and drink stuff. But if I was you, I would just go to the grocery, but some stuff to make a sandwich and call it a day. Food in oslo sucks, and is like 3 times the price. You also by beer at grocery (about 3$ for cheapest tall boy - buy individual beers not whole 6 pack) and go cchill at the top of at hanshaugen park to watch the sunset. Lots of people do that and it's pretty nice.

There's kebabs near you on Torgatta which are cheaper food.

Also if you go for a beer, there's a few places I would recommend. Blå is a place you can sit on the river and it's an old factory vibe. Super cool. Then there's 2 micro brewery type places, crow bar (2 blocks from you, lots of people) then schous brewery (near you, basement style really great micro brew - kindof quiet though)"

I went to Bla and it was a very cool scenic bar(along a river)
Kebab's were great

Also theflightdeal has a piece on norway

Oslo in January sounds a bit miserable. I was in Copenhagen and Berlin a month ago and it was windy and cold

Norwegien is a ULCC (Ultra low cost carrier). Like all other ULCCs, like Spirit, they charge you for everything. Familiarize yourself with the fees before taking the plunge.

1 carry on not more than 22 pounds. Spirit allows you 1 luggage free too, albeit, much smaller. You and I can travel light. Most people don't

Especially to Norway, where you want to pack bulky items like warm clothes, hiking boots etc. Unless you just wear them on the plane like I would

Don't do AU for 2 weeks. It will take 30+ hrs to get there and 30+ hrs to get back. That will zap almost 3 days from your trip.

Fly into Dublin, rent a car, drive around, fly back.

Damn, looking at Opener Festival in GDYNIA end of June, its right over the Baltic from Copenhaagen.

This really could be perfect. Fests in Europe are so much more reasonable priced than here. 4 day pass for 130 euros and linup is below.

Red Hot Chili Peppers
LCD Sound System
Kygo
Bastille
Wiz Khalifa
Tamele Impala
Florence and the Machine

Fjords, a Euro game or two and a few days at this show, Im about to impulse the shite out of this.
