I'm not a car guy. I take my 2017 Chevy Traverse into Jiffy Lube to get an oil change about every 4-5k miles. Last time I went in, they put in 5w30 Blend. Total was $103 after taxes. Is this high or normal?

last time i paid to have oil changed was last year and it was $45 for synthetic blend and oil filter. and i thought that was high so i started doing it myself for about $30

Not that bad. You're also paying for speed. You're in and out as opposed to leaving it at the mechanic and walking somewhere.

SIGNATURE SERVICE BLEND 76.99

OIL FILTER OF2500 1.00
- Wix Oil Filter WL10255 - $12.99 @ Oreillys

PZL GLD SAE 5W30 SP/GF6 DEXOS1 6.00 10.99
- Oreilly Full Synthetic 5W-30 = $7.69 x6 @ Oreillys

SHOP SUPPLY/WASTE DISPOSAL 1.00 6.49
- Oil Drain Container (reusable) - $13.99 @ Oreillys (they'll dispose of the oil for free if you bring it to the store in this container. they'll pour it into a barrel)

$12.99 + (6 x $7.69) + $13.99 = $73.12 (without tax) / $59.13 (without tax and oil container)

if you want the prices with your local tax, just multiply the total price by $1._ _.

For example, where I live, tax is 7.5%. So, I'd take the total price is multiply it by $1.075.

$73.12 x $1.075 = $78.60
$59.13 x $1.075 = $63.56

with that said, it will always be cheaper to do it yourself.

So what do I need to change about my order to reduce my price? Different type of oil?

do it yourself unless they're doing a multi-point inspection.

About $10 to high for that service. Your paying for oil change, air pressure check, top off fluids, general look over. A little bit high but that's how they make money so to each is own.

You have to use a DEXOS approved oil for your vehicle. Unless they carry a cheaper brand, go with what they have or price around to find a cheaper shop.

I buy 6 quarts from Costco at $20 (dexos). I buy a filter for $5. All in for $25 and about 10min of time to do my own.

I change my own (6 Quarts) using full synthetic for about 40 bucks.

Depends how much you value not doing it yourself.

Mine are super easy as everything is top access with using a vacuum pump. I dont have to get under the car with an oil pan and my filters are replaced from the top side. I just start the pump, change the filter, then seal it all back up and add fresh oil.

That's a good deal. Did you have a coupon?

Mine is about $100 but i need 8qt. With full synthetic, i figure it's not worth it to do myself.

no coupon, its a local tire choice. they've been taking over the mom and pop shops around here. had brought it a few times to them and the first time was only $35, which was what the mom and pop shop was charging before.

5.5 quarts of mobil 1 5w30 synthetic blend with a wix filter

now that i do my own i use valvoline and toyota OEM filter since they're actually cheaper

depends, if you're already running synthetic that only needs changing every 12k miles, i'd stick with it. $100 for 12k or 15k miles aint too bad.
