The L-4 form is awful. I fill it out accurately and keep overpaying the state.
Any tips on how to fill out the L-4 to stop witholding too much each paycheck?
Married. One dependent.

My state taxes was always opposite, I ended up owing more than what was withheld. So, I decided to add an extra 5 bucks a paycheck to the state withholding (130 a year) and magically that fixed the issue and I usually get money back. Single here.

Put a negative in box 8.
Total overpayment / number of paychecks in a year.

Or add some more dependents. It doesn’t have to match your actual situation, you just can’t “owe too much” or they could tack on a penalty
