This dude was a junior when I started at LSU, and I just made 28 last month, and I’m 5 years removed from graduating at LSU

It helps that we just signed the #1 punter in the country. ZVR has been a great tiger though.

I appreciated his honesty:

“What I will miss most is not game days or my team mates but the freshmen coeds. I got older, and they stayed the same age.”

The dude made more money at 18 than anyone in this thread made by the time they were 40.

That dude did it right. Get a few million from baseball then party it up at LSU the next few years with the easiest job on the football team

What a lucky dude

I think a very smart move by him. Of all the players that can really justify leaving, ZVR checks all the boxes. If he wants to have a successful pro career, and he will, time to make the move. He is very old for a college player, needs to get on with his life, and has been a great Tiger!

Will be pulling for him!

I was about to say that he can't draw SS until he starts paying into it...not much time left!

He’s one of the best true athletes to step foot on campus.

Eh his signing bonus was $1.2 mil. Minor leagers yearly salary is barely over minimum wage. Less than $100k a year before taxes and Agents cut. If he was smart he should still be living comfortable but he ain't rich.

Why would he leave? He will never enjoy life more than he is right now. I would ride that another year. He could start doing some GA coaching duties and work into a great special teams coach making good money. That is a much safer financial bet than hoping you make an NFL roster and have a 5 year career.

Anyone think he saw the writing on the wall with the incoming punter signee? I expected him to stick around.

But back in 1970 that was a lot of money.

Sure. But compare this to a regular broke arse college student (and student athletes). He got the best of everything, experience being a student athlete while having plenty of money and also enough wisdom to know to appreciate it and not take it for granted.

And won a freaking national championship on top of it

Noooo!!!

I really like having a player who’s older than I am.

Plus he’s hilarious and the voice of reason. He could stay another 2 years if I’m not mistaken.
