because they’re morons who think every freshman should look like Alex Bregman in his last year at LSU

Fun fact. Bregman’s fielding% his freshman year was .939

Thompson’s was .938

People don’t realize that it’s very fricking hard for a freshman to step in as a freshman shortstop in the SEC

Got to make room for Arizona players in the Portal. Should be a all star team next year. It will be interesting how JJ unites the two squads and make them all LSU players.

Other than Jack Merrifield or possibly Connor Simon...Jordan Thompson is LSU's most likely SS next year, I don't get the hate for him.

Thompson had the yips at the end and he kind of hit a wall at the plate. He has a lot of tools and a high ceiling.

I mean the whole infield is pretty much set. You’re adding Berry, Joubert, Simon & Merrifield, Arnold can walk in & start at a bunch of places. But not the new LSU

Who did he guarantee the 4 infield spots to? As I see it, we have at least 1 spot open for business at the moment. Maybe 2, if you move Morgan to the OF. Maybe 3 if you're not happy with Thompson or he's not happy with LSU. Merrified and Jobert can play OF.

Players aren’t going to stick around & “battle” for spots when they can start other places.

So we're going to have 9 position players next year and the rest will be pitchers. Got it.

Any coach would be a fool to give up on Thompson right now. I’m not guaranteeing him a starting spot at SS but you’re going to see him start at short second or 3rd next year.

We don't currently have anyone on the roster or incoming that would absolutely be better at short than Thompson.

Simon has the capability of getting there, but he's got a lot of reps to catch up on and arm strength the build back.

How sure are we that he even makes it to campus? Perfect Game has him rated a 10 out of 10 as a prospect. Maybe the injury helps us like it did with Bregman?

It’s almost like it’s hard to come in and play shortstop right away.

I don’t understand these guys who think we can just plug someone in there who will be better than Thompson who has shown that he was the potential to be a star in this league. He was a freshman who looked like a freshman this year.

Maybe it was Crews and Morgan making people forget what a freshman is supposed to look like or maybe it’s just the stupidity of the fan base but it’s laughable regardless.

I think Thompson will be the SS next year if he chooses to stay. But, you're not going to tell me that Johnson told him anything different than he told Arnold...or Merrifield...or Jobert...or Pearson...or Simon...or Holt...etc. I guess they'll all be exploring other options.

Unless Tre is there to assist he might miss it.

He's got the talent to be a good SS, but y'all acting like he didn't have a stroke mid throw a number of times this year are stupid

Outside of Crews, Morgan, Doughty and Dugas (if he decides to return) Thompson is probably the most comfortable of the remaining five starters. You could make an argument for Bianco but he’s going to have the same problem he’s always had in that he doesn’t really have a position.

Go look up Alex Bregman’s fielding stats from his freshman year. That guy turned into a pretty damn good defensive shortstop didn’t he

He also made some spectacular plays. It's almost like he was a true freshman.

This isn’t someone being processed IMO
Wouldn’t it be a bad look for jj to get here, not watch a single practice and then take his scholarship away about a week into the job .

The more I think about it ,there is no way that happened.if he’s planning on “trimming the fat”, then their would be other players that play middle infield that he would to take a dive into their tape before they got to Arnold

He’s hasn’t had the time to get anywhere close to making those decisions yet. As I keep typing I’m becoming certain that he wasn’t told he’s off scholarship.it’s just not how those things are done, plenty of time to address that but Arnold has till July 1st though. So that tells me that it could be a just in case situation

You don’t have any idea how things work. Your opinion on this is totally wrong

To be fair, we were pretty spoiled with DJ, Nola, Bregman and Smith playing some pretty damn good SS as freshman. I think that raised expectations, maybe not realistic ones though.

I get your point but Josh Smith came in and played some damn good third base as a freshman with Kramer at short
