For athletics, or the university's endowment?

The university foundation is about to announce another major fund raising campaign this spring much like the “Forever LSU” one from a few years ago. So all you billionaires on the Rant get your check books ready.

If I remember correctly, that campaign was supposed to raise $750MM, but the endowment total hardly moved.

Overall LSU does treat their students like trash which certainly doesn’t help with the endowment.

I found this about Forever LSU

Ultimately, Forever LSU raised $764 million, but $354 million of that was for athletics. Only $123 million was raised toward the general foundation.
The campaign generated 794 new scholarships, 429 new professorships and $400 million in campus infrastructure — more than half of which was for athletics projects.

The endowment isn't controlled by the state. It isn't controlled by the legislature. It isn't controlled by LSU staff. It is solely for LSU. You can even state what departments you want your donation to help. But you wouldn't donate anyway, so that explanation is lost on you.

I agree with you guys, a little helps. But Athletics give back to the academic side. Having money pumping into that isn't a bad thing. Also, enrollment goes up with good sports teams.

And LA isn't as well off as some of the states that have schools higher than LSU.

Honestly, some of you seem so bitter towards LSU. It makes me wonder why you're here. I find myself wishing you'd follow another university's sports.

The dept I graduated in got rid of their experiences professors who had years of actual work experiences to relate to us and replaces them with people who had never actually worked in their field but were professional students getting degrees. That’s messed up. I quit donating after that.

You are mistakenly assuming you are posting to LSU Fans only. Gump sub human primate m...f..s are every where on here. And we have our Negatiger chiite that stinks up the joint.

Granted. The good news is we can have both great athletics and a large endowment. Plus donations to the foundation counts towards your TAF points.

Also granted. But, if every alum out there gave $50 a year, we could grow the endowment. If every person who pretends to love LSU gave $25 a year, the university would be in a better place.

LSU didn’t give me anything. I paid for and earned everything thing I’ve gotten from there. That line of reasoning for my donation is fruitless.

F..king and Aleva can cover my sought for gift.

Google has LSU's endowment as $845 million but, that number includes the entire system. According to the LSU Foundation, the endowment for LSU Baton Rouge is $455.7 million as of June 30, 2017. That is pitifully low, especially as compared to the rest of the SEC.

Just for context, I teach at a small liberal arts university in Ohio with about 4,000 students. Our endowment is almost $120 million. In that light, yes, LSU's endowment is pretty small.

And it will stay that way since the mindset of the alumni is

I want to on one level but please help me understand the premise. I paid tuition. I did. Not my parents or the state. I went to class and studied. What was given to me that was not fairly paid for in the direct transaction? Indirectly, the politics of this state fricks it’s citizens hard between its corruption on obvious lack of business knowledge. Our citizens are front of the pack against socialism but our state government has been socialist like for a very long time.

Yes. So they can give even more financial aid and scholarships to out of state students and still almost nothing to in state students.

"The more you help people what they want,
the more that you will get what you want"

LSU has become more and more about money and less and less about the fans ... now they wonder as to why the disconnect (and donations) are happening.
